NJSBOE Honors New Jersey 2025 Superintendent

of the Year Jack Hurley, Chief Education Officer, Rutherford Public Schools

Third from left, New Jersey 2025 Superintendent of the Year Jack Hurley was honored by the New Jersey State Board of Education (NJSBOE) at its December meeting. Hurley, with a career spanning 47 years in the Rutherford Schools, a PreK-12 district serving about 2,600 students, expressed, "Education is the greatest profession. We lay the foundation for all other fields and shape the future of our students." He emphasized, "This recognition belongs to the Board, our dedicated administrative and supervisory teams, faculty, staff, students, and the supportive community of Rutherford.”

A Must Read - Part Three Discusses OPRA’s Exemptions for Security-Related Information and Surveillance Video ...

The amendments to the Open Public Records Act (OPRA) became effective on September 3, 2024. Part One of this Administrative Guide provided a brief overview of the new changes and discussed definitions of significance for school officials. Part Two provided an analysis of the exemption from disclosure for advisory, consultative, and deliberative material and discussed OPRA’s changes for requests for email and text messages. Part Three discusses OPRA’s exemptions for security-related information and surveillance video and the exemption for records falling under the attorney-client and work product privileges.

Experiences and Lessons Learned During the CoSN 2024 International Education Delegation to Spain

The partnership between NJASA and CoSN, the Consortium for School Networking, is a synergy of shared goals and a profound commitment to advancing education for the benefit of students and communities.

CoSN recently released a comprehensive report about the CoSN 2024 International Education Delegation’s visit to Spain. During the group’s visit to Spain, they had the opportunity to gain an understanding of Spain’s educational environment through visits to historical and contemporary schools as well as by participating in informative presentations and meeting with several of Spain’s educational leaders.
