NJASA Legal Department Research Services

School board members are involved in making critical decisions that affect school district operations. These decisions can include personnel matters, financial matters, labor contracts, and contracts with third parties, among other issues. As a result of the decisions they make, matters they vote on, or statements they make, board members may be named as defendants or respondents in civil, administrative, and/or criminal cases. Thus, school officials must know about board members’ ability to be reimbursed for legal expenses in defending such matters. This Administrative Guide provides guidance to school officials on the Indemnification of Board Members.

Updating the NJASA Advisory Network

In 2023, NJASA created the NJASA Advisory Network as a platform for members to connect with other members. This network of successful, experienced superintendents and other central office leaders offers support to peers by answering inquiries about common challenges of school and district operations.

NJASA is looking to enhance and expand the network and is asking for your assistance in completing a short survey reporting your extraordinary experiences from a predetermined checklist. To complete the brief survey, click here

Thank you for your interest and commitment to support NJASA Members! Please email Frank Borelli, Director of Professional Development; Judy Rattner, Director of Special Projects; or Dr. Mark Stanwood, Director NJ School Administrator Residency Program; with any questions.

This staging environment is intended to provide all districts, regardless of pilot participation, with hands-on experience to validate workflows, file formatting, error handling, and general system behavior.
