The School Ethics Commission (SEC) provides invaluable guidance to boards and school officials through its decisions and advisory opinions. Part one of the multi-part Administrative Guide series will explore, highlight, and discuss recent decisions and advisory opinions construing conflicts of interest under the Act.

School Year 2024-2025 Student Growth Objectives Frequently Asked Questions

On May 17, 2024, Governor Murphy signed P.L.2024, c.14 (S2082), which establishes a 13-member task force designed to study and evaluate the educator evaluation system established pursuant to the TEACHNJ Act of 2012 and currently implemented in New Jersey public schools. Beyond the establishment of the Task Force, P.L.2024, c.14 also halts the collection of new student growth objective (SGO) data for the 2024-2025 school year for tenured teachers. Today, the Department of Education is releasing a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document designed to address what is anticipated to be common questions local education agency (LEA) leads will have regarding the law’s impact on local operations for the upcoming school year.

Flexibility for Advertising in Print or Electronic Newspapers Extended through End of June

This broadcast memo provides notification that, on February 28, 2025, Governor Murphy signed P.L. 2025, c. 22. This law allows public bodies – including school districts – to continue publishing a public notice or legal advertisement in a newspaper in either print or electronic format through June 30, 2025.


New Jersey Joins Multistate Guidance for Schools on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Initiatives

This broadcast provides notification of the release of guidance jointly issued by a group of states, including New Jersey, to assist schools and districts regarding accessibility policies and practices in education. In light of the release of a U.S. Education Department (USED) “Dear Colleague” letter on February 14, 2025, and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document, issued on February 28, 2025, the guidance seeks to help schools understand the legality, viability, and importance of such policies and programs.

This award will recognize a Special Education Administrator who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in providing services to students with disabilities and whose work reflects the highest professional and ethical standards. The award is co-sponsored by the New Jersey Association of School Administrators, the New Jersey Association of Pupil Services Administrators, & Frontline Education.
