The Cook County Small Business Source celebrated the successful disbursement of $50 million through the 2023 Source Grant to 3,000 small businesses throughout Cook County with an event on February 6 at The Hatchery in Garfield Park. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle shared, “Small businesses have shown a unique tenacity and staying power in surviving the pandemic, and they are important assets to our community.” President Toni Preckwinkle was joined at the event by Cook County Commissioners and the Source’s network of community support organizations, alongside a number of grant awardees.
Cheryl Vargas, owner of La Grange-based Studio 928, shared that it was “Beyond exciting” to receive the 2023 Source Grant. “I’ve been a solo-entrepreneur for quite awhile” shared Vargas, who has recently leveraged her grant funds to hire an administrative assistant. “I’ve never had someone behind the scenes helping me with operations and administrative functions... it’s the best move I’ve ever made.” Cheryl also extended her gratitude to the Women's Business Development Center (WBDC), a Source BSO, for the support she received throughout the grant application process. “The WBDC has been very instrumental in supporting my business… the WBDC is how I found out about the grant and they continue to support me today.”
