New Mural Going Up on Parking GarageMural

Second Mural in South Park Public Art Program by DevNGosha

Thanks to our partnership with the Do Art Foundation, and local property owner PSP Investments, the once plain parking structure on Hope and 11th is soon to be adorned with a huge mural.  The art is being created by artist team DevnGosha, a duo formed in 2012.  While Devin's work is stylistically realistic, Gosha's is lyrical in form, making their joint efforts incredibly dynamic.

Work on the mural began on Friday, December 5, and will continue over the next couple of weeks, weather permitting.  Be sure to stop by and watch the artists in action as they help make this corner one of the hottest in the neighborhood.

You can follow the artists at @devngosha on Twitter and Instagram.  If you snap any pics, make sure to tag the #SPDoesArt!
800 Sidewalk Repairs Start January 5Sidewalk

Notices To Be Distributed in Advance of Work Across District

Beginning January 5, 2015, the South Park BID will begin repairing approximately 800 uneven sidewalk locations in the district.  Expect some noise and dust, but minimal traffic impacts.  Utilizing a concrete cutting technique, saw cutting, problem areas will be cut at an angle, as seen in the image to the left.
These repairs will not include areas broken by tree roots or those in front of new developments, where the sidewalks will be completely reinstalled soon.

The entire process will take 8 - 10 weeks, with the entire repair team working on one location at a time in order minimize impact in each area.  Notices will be passed out daily to the buildings and stakeholders who will be impacted as the process moves along each street.  The construction will only take place Monday - Friday, from 9 AM - 3 PM.

The repairs will move along the streets of South Park in the following order: Hope St, Grand St, Venice Blvd, Pico Blvd, 12th St, and Flower St.

Please call the BID should you experience any particular issues as our sidewalks get fixed, and we will do our best to resolve them.

New Trees Coming to South ParkTreewells

Tree Meeting with City Leads to New Tree Locations in District

The South Park BID has been working on a plan to bring more trees across the neighborhood with city departments and tree specialists.

City Plants with LA Conservation Corps, who also does South Park's street maintenance, is now embarking on cutting the newly approved tree wells across the district.  Cutting began last week and will continue into the first quarter of 2015.  South Park will have 18 new trees within the next few months, thanks to the hard work of LACC, the City, and landscape architecture firms Melndrez and Mia Lehrer and Associates.  Be on the lookout for your friends in green creating these new spaces for trees!

El Cholo
Wonderful Mexican Food Since 1923

South Park has been lucky enough to have El Cholo as part of our community since 2010.  It isis a member of the El Cholo family that spans across the city, a Los Angeles native business that was initially established near the Coliseum in 1923.  With delicious Mexican food and cool pitchers of margaritas, El Cholo has the kind of atmosphere you love to enter and hate to leave.

Opening the same year that their Filet Mignon Tacos were awarded Best Taco in the city, the location in South Park is just across the street from LA LIVE & Staples Center, making it easily accessible for residents and visitors alike.  You can also order easily online!

South Park BID would like to give a special thanks to El Cholo for being one of the restaurants to provide refreshments at our recent Annual Meeting.
