On May 12th the SPBID held its inaugural retail tour: "Why South Park? Why Now?"  The intimate tour is a chance for those looking to do business in South Park to get an insider's view of the changes happening in the district.

The tour began with a 15 minute presentation by Josh Kreger, Director of Real Estate and Planning for the BID, on the growth of South Park and the scope of new development taking place.

After the presentation, tour attendees were taken around the district to see potential retail opportunities as well as visit some of South Park's thriving new businesses. Businesses such as Coco Fresh, Impresso CafĂ©, Speedplay, Drip Doctors, Hygge Bakery and PRE Real Estate shared with the attendees why they chose South Park and what they love about the neighborhood.

One theme that was highlighted during the tour was how supportive South Park businesses are of each other and how much the BID has helped support each business.

Going forward, the retail tour will be done quarterly, with the next tour likely to be around the end of August.

South Park Pico Station Enhancements:
The BID is focusing on the following i mprovements:  lighting upgrades with energy efficiency; K-rail graphic art; upgraded way finding and general signage; enhancing fencing for safety and branding purposes.  The BID is also looking into opportunities to change the current "Pico" signage to provide a title that is more descriptive to the general area.

What's next up for this committee is to look up design elements at the next meeting, and have a specific breakdown of cost. The idea is that the BID will be the model for others.

South Park Green Alley Pilot Project:
The BID held their first meeting with property owners as well as the City to generate recommendations and develop a template to replicate in other alleys.

The BID was chosen as one of three partners to execute this project. 2 alleys have been identified in South Park for this project: off Pico up to 12th between Hill and Olive. The goal of the council office is to encourage retail frontage off alleyways combined with the Public Works goal of storm water capture, permeable surfaces.
