SECRET TALENT: I have the uncanny knack for solving all sorts of puzzles. I learned in college that I was especially good at those strange, physical ones – like the interconnected rings with only one solution to separate them individually. The amusing talents you discover while hanging out at an Irish pub on North Avenue years ago…
CLAIM TO FAME: Little do some people know that I have two degrees in Fine Art. My majors were Fine Arts Painting and Drawing and Fine Arts in Metalsmithing. By no means is this my fame but ever since I can remember I have been working on and tinkering with things. Whether it’s my cars, minibikes, my home, etc… I consider my ability to fix pretty much anything my claim to fame and that’s the superpower I would always tell my kids. Within the last few years I have gotten into Horology and watch making. I recently, and more importantly successfully, restored my grandfather’s mechanical pocket watch after countless years of being out of commission. I mean, come on, that’s pretty cool.
OBLIGATORY CONSTRUCTION FACTOID: On my father’s side of the family, there are several generations of finish carpenters, including my great uncle who became a Master Carpenter. Growing up he always worked at my childhood home, and I just always thought it was the coolest seeing him work. I eventually helped him on several projects while in high school and college. He taught me some tricks of the trade but more importantly showed me the means to build things with your own two hands and seeing the rewards of your hard, honest work.
CONTEMPLATIVE THOUGHT OF THE DAY: Here are a couple of sayings I abide by:
1) The tallest nail is the first one to be pounded down.
2) Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
Take these how you may, but they pop into my head more often than not.
