The Students
Erie Day School recently welcomed its newest inductees into the Georgiana Fust Patterson Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, continuing a proud tradition of academic excellence, leadership, and service.
Membership in NJHS is an impressive achievement, particularly at EDS, where our chapter's qualifications exceed the national standard requirements. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher for two consecutive semesters, complete an average of 10 hours of community service each year, and demonstrate outstanding leadership, citizenship, and character.
For our alumni, the ceremony may bring back some fond memories! Current NJHS members continue the tradition of leading the induction and welcoming their newest peers. And yes, there's still a beautiful cake and Mr. G.'s famous punch! It's these familiar faces, special traditions, and little touches that make Erie Day School feel like home, no matter how many years have passed since you walked our halls.

The Teachers
We are thrilled to share that Erie Day School's very own Mr. Brian Gutkowski has been honored with the JET 24 and PennWest University Golden Apple Award for the second time!
With 21 years of teaching experience, including 19 at Erie Day School, Mr. G has an incredible gift for getting students genuinely excited about learning. Rather than simply teaching dates and historical events, he brings history to life through simulations, role-playing, storytelling, and lively classroom discussions. His students don't just learn about history; they experience it.
The level of critical thinking he encourages is remarkable. Sit in on one of his classes, and you might forget for a moment that you're not in a college lecture hall! The conversations sparked by his lessons often extend far beyond the classroom, inspiring curiosity, collaboration, creativity, and a desire to dig deeper.
What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that Mr. G was nominated by one of his own students, Vihaan Koradia, who praised his ability to challenge students to reach their full potential and make history come alive.
For Mr. G, history is about much more than understanding the past. It's about learning from the successes and mistakes of those who came before us to become better people. That philosophy, paired with his passion for teaching, has made a lasting impact on generations of EDS students.
Please join us in congratulating him!

The Alumni
As Erie Day School approaches its 100th anniversary in 2029, we're beginning to plan a celebration worthy of this remarkable milestone—and we'd love for our alumni to be part of it!
Our centennial is an opportunity to honor a century of learning, friendships, and cherished traditions while celebrating the generations of students, families, faculty, and friends who have shaped the EDS story. From special events and alumni gatherings to opportunities to preserve our history and look toward the future, there's so much to celebrate!
We're forming EDS100, our Centennial Planning Committee, and we invite you to join us! Whether you graduated five years ago or fifty, your memories, ideas, and connections are an important part of our school's history.

Make a Lasting Impact with a Tax-Smart Gift
If you're age 70½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA offers a simple, tax-efficient way to support EDS. By directing a gift from your IRA to the School, you can make a lasting difference for our students while potentially reducing your taxable income.
In 2026, eligible individuals may transfer up to $111,000 annually directly from their IRA to qualified charities. These gifts may also satisfy all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), if applicable, without adding the qualifying amount to your taxable income.
Making Your Gift Is Easy!
Simply contact your IRA custodian or financial advisor and request a Qualified Charitable Distribution to Erie Day School. Your custodian can arrange for the gift to be sent directly to the School.
Your Legacy. Their Future.
For nearly a century, Erie Day School has inspired generations of students to think critically, lead with confidence, and embrace a lifelong love of learning. Your generosity helps preserve the traditions, values, and personal connections that make EDS so special, ensuring that future generations of Spartans have the same opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.
To learn more about supporting Erie Day School contact Christina Katen at ckaten@eriedayschool.com.
Please consult your financial or tax advisor to determine how a QCD may benefit your individual circumstances.
