The stage is set, the lights are warming, and the excitement is building as our Elementary and Middle School students prepare to present Matilda Jr.!
After weeks of rehearsals, line memorization, choreography, and teamwork (and maybe a little bit of “revolting” fun along the way!), our students are ready to take the stage. With big energy, bold voices, and just a touch of mischief, they are bringing this beloved story to life.
Of course, even the bravest performers feel those pre-show butterflies. But just like Matilda herself, our students are showing incredible courage—stepping into the spotlight with confidence, heart, and a willingness to be a little bit daring. Because sometimes, you have to be a little bit naughty to make something truly magical happen.
Behind the scenes, families and volunteers have been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the set, while Tech Week is officially underway—where all the pieces come together (and maybe a few last-minute surprises, too!).
We invite you to join us in celebrating the creativity, dedication, and bravery of our young performers:
Friday, May 27 at 7:00 PM
Saturday, May 28 at 7:00 PM
🎟️ Tickets are available here: https://cur8.com/41010/project/137831
Whether it’s their first time on stage or one of many performances, each student is taking a bold step—finding their voice, lifting each other up, and proving that even the smallest performers can do extraordinary things.
Break a leg, EDS—we know you’re going to be revoltingly good!

With Gratitude
As we prepare for Palm Royale: The Auction at Erie Day School, we are reminded that this event is made possible through the generosity and partnership of our incredible sponsors. Their support plays a vital role in bringing our community together and directly impacts the experience we are able to create for our students and families.
We also want to take a moment to clarify a misprint that appeared in our auction invitation. While we take great care in reviewing all materials, we regret that an error occurred on our end and sincerely apologize for this oversight. We would like to specifically recognize ERickson Concierge Medicine and thank them for their support and understanding.
Each of our sponsors plays an important role in the success of this event, and we are deeply grateful for their support. For a full listing of all our event sponsors, we invite you to visit our event website.

The Campus
At this year’s Erie Day School Auction, our Raise the Paddle moment will focus on an exciting opportunity to enhance teaching and learning across our classrooms.
Funds raised will support the purchase of ViewSonic Smart Boards, an interactive technology that replaces the traditional whiteboards and ceiling-mounted projectors currently used in many of our classrooms. These boards allow teachers and students to engage with lessons dynamically — writing, presenting, collaborating, and accessing digital resources all in one place.
Our initial goal is $10,000, which would allow us to purchase five ViewSonic Smart Boards to outfit our Middle School classrooms. Should we exceed that goal, additional funds will help us continue updating classrooms throughout the school so that every learning space benefits from this modern technology.
A couple classrooms have already begun using ViewSonic Boards, and the feedback from both teachers and students has been incredibly positive. To help our guests experience the difference firsthand, a ViewSonic Smart Board will be on display at the event.
Your support during Raise the Paddle will help ensure that our classrooms continue to evolve alongside the innovative learning taking place within them.
You don’t have to wait until the night of the auction to support this initiative — donations toward the Raise the Paddle goal can be made anytime, helping us begin building momentum toward bringing this technology into more classrooms. DONATE NOW!

The Students
Last month, Erie Day School’s Middle School students participated in the 13th Annual Collegiate Academy Model United Nations Conference, joining peers from across the region to debate complex global issues and collaborate on solutions. We are proud to share that Erie Day School earned 1st Place overall as a school.
Our students received multiple individual recognitions across several committees. In the AI in Education Committee, Erie Day School earned 1st Place. In the committee addressing the dual dilemma of banning biological weapons while not stagnating medical research, our students earned 2nd Place along with several Honorable Mentions. In the committee focused on protecting migrants and displaced persons fleeing conflict or natural disasters, Erie Day School received 1st Place and an Honorable Mention. Another 1st Place was awarded in the committee examining amendments to the Articles of Confederation, where students explored early American governance and constitutional reform.
Congratulations to our students for representing Erie Day School with such insight, diplomacy, and intellectual curiosity, and thank you to Mr. Gutowski for his leadership and guidance in preparing and supporting our winning team.

The Teachers
For the past 12 years at Erie Day School—and 14 years in the classroom overall—Kindergarten teacher Tricia Veith has been welcoming our youngest learners into the EDS community with warmth, patience, and care.
Tricia shares that her students have taught her some of the most important lessons in education: patience and the value of being thorough. But above all, she loves working in a school because, as she says, being around children is always joyful—no matter what kind of day it is, kids can always make you smile. Her guiding goal each year is simple but powerful: to make sure every child feels special, valued, and heard in her classroom.
Tricia recently returned from maternity leave, where she welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Celine, to her family. When she’s not in the classroom, she enjoys golfing, camping, and playing cards with family and friends.
Within the EDS community, Tricia especially loves the school’s Thanksgiving Feast tradition, a moment each year when the entire school gathers in gratitude and celebration.
Many EDS families fondly remember Tricia’s beloved classroom traditions. Her “wallet” system for red and green choices introduces students to responsibility while also giving them an early understanding of money.
In her classroom community, there is always a furry friend for the classroom “vet” to care for and plants by the window for the “gardener” to water. Through these small but meaningful roles, students learn how jobs and responsibilities help a community work together and thrive.
It’s these thoughtful touches—and Tricia’s joyful spirit—that make the kindergarten experience at Erie Day School so memorable for students and families alike.
