The Students
Our middle school students recently wrapped up their student council campaigns, and elections were held on September 27th. Congratulations to the newly elected 2024-25 Student Council!
Throughout the week, students demonstrated incredible leadership and creativity. The school's walls were filled with clever campaign posters, and candidates delivered thoughtful speeches, showcasing their passion for serving their peers.
Our student candidates enthusiastically campaigned, promising extra school dances, more dress-down and Spirit Days, and longer snack breaks! They also committed to upholding our school values, working toward reducing water and energy usage, reallocating those savings for community service, and standing up for student concerns on school-wide matters. We are incredibly proud of all who participated in this exciting and meaningful process!

The Campus
The Schaal Family generously donated two granite benches to Erie Day School in memory of beloved, retired English educator, Mrs. Virginia Rogers. Each bench is engraved with a quote reflecting her profound impact on students. One reads, "Parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say good night until it be morrow," a tribute to her passion for Shakespeare and her remarkable ability to inspire Middle School students to embrace his works. The other bench bears the quote, "To whom much is given, much is expected," a phrase Ginny was known to use in reminding students of the potential they hold.

The Teachers
Ms. Ann Giannelli, Grade 3 Educator at Erie Day School, is spearheading a new EDS Green Team! As part of her ongoing commitment to sustainability, the team will be implementing a Zero Waste Lunch Program at Erie Day School.
Ms. Giannelli has been a driving force behind many of our eco-friendly initiatives, including recycling, composting, and Family Style Lunch. Through this new program, she will continue to inspire students to take action in caring for our environment.
We are also grateful to the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for their generous financial support, which has made the Zero Waste Lunch Program possible. Stay tuned for updates as the EDS Green Team takes exciting steps forward!

The Alumni
Erie Day School is proud to celebrate the accomplishments of alumnus Matt Rogers, who now runs the travel company Life Can Be A Trip–started by his mother and beloved EDS English teacher, the late Ginny Rogers, and retired EDS math teacher, Denise Padden.
Continuing the legacy of bespoke travel experiences that Ginny and Denise began, Matt’s company offers thoughtfully curated trips for adventurers across the globe. His commitment to crafting memorable journeys and learning beyond the classroom reflects the passion and creativity instilled in him during his days as a pupil at EDS.
Matt & his wife, Atty. Belinda Rogers reside in Erie, PA. They have two children, William (7) & Louisa (5) who both attend Erie Day School.

Turn your tax dollars into Scholarships
One of the most impactful initiatives for our school’s development is the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program. This program is run through the Commonwealth of PA and provides a 90-100% tax credit to a business or individual in exchange for a donation to Erie Day School.
If you own a business or if you pay at least $3,500 in personal PA income tax, you most likely qualify.
Aside from the benefits to the school, this is one of the ways you can take control of how your taxes are allocated.
