CAMPUS NEWS
Welcome our New Head of School!
Lori Dembo has been appointed our new Head of School. She’ll begin on July 1, 2019. Dembo will enter her duties in Ellicott City with many years of independent school experience and administrative expertise. She is currently serving as Lower-School Head at St. James Academy in Monkton, MD, where she also coordinates the International Baccalaureate Middle-Years Program.

Both St. James and St. John’s are members of the National Association of Episcopal Schools and accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS), and association of 126 of the best private schools in Maryland and Washington DC. “St. John’s could not have done better than Lori,” says Dr. Chip Prehn, Interim Headmaster of St. John’s. “This is going to be a game-changer for the Parish Day School.” Dembo will move to Howard County next spring. She has two boys, one in medical school in Philadelphia and the other is a junior at Penn State. SJPDS welcomes Ms. Dembo!
5th grade trip to Echo Hill
Earlier this week our 5th graders left to Echo Hill for an outdoor team building and educational experience.
Annual Fund 2018-2019
We can’t BEAR not to have your BEAR in the lobby! If you haven’t sent yours in yet along with your donation form it is not too late. The first class to reach 100% participation by 12/31/18 will win a Pajama Day, and the class that raises the most money by the same date will win an after-school Movie and Ice Cream Sundae Party in January!

The theme for this year’s Annual Fund is “Experience the Power of 100%!” Our goal is for 100% of St. John’s families to support the Annual Fund this year to help us reach our goal of $45,000. This campaign is our top fundraiser and is critical to the School’s daily operating budget.
Every gift impacts every student. Donations in any amount are welcome and are tax deductible. Be sure to check with your employer to see if they offer a matching gift program. Many corporations match their employee’s gift dollar-for-dollar (or more!).
For more information about Annual Fund or Planned Giving opportunities, please contact Lisa Hermodsson, Director of Development, at [email protected] .

Family Tech Talk

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
All Saints Hall
As parents, we strive to be actively involved in our kids’ “Internet experience” by talking regularly about safety, privacy, kindness, and balancing online and offline time—and, modeling good online behavior ourselves!  But, many of us don't know as much as we would like to know.
Trend Micro is the world’s leading independent cloud security company and has agreed to visit  St. John's on Saturday, December 8th. As experts when it comes to security; they are passionate about their Internet Safety for Kids and Families Program. It aims to raise awareness and educate parents and children about
being safe, responsible and of course successful online.

This 60-minute presentation is followed by a Q&A session. Topics covered at the presentation include:
  • Education about internet gaming and social networking, its benefits and dangers
  • Explanations and advice on inappropriate content and malicious software
  • Facts and advice on illegal downloading and cyber-bullying
  • A strong emphasis throughout on being responsible online.
Santa's Workshop
December 17th & 18th, 2018
Auditorium
The Parents’ Association is hosting a Santa’s Workshop this year in the Auditorium for our students to choose small gifts for those they love. Each student will be allowed two gift choices. Our children will be choosing gifts for mothers, fathers, siblings, grandparents, and anyone they choose. Please remind those in the know, that this event will serve our little friends nearly all of whom still believe in more than just the spirit of Santa Claus.
Our support teams will include those who donate, sort, set up, clean up, shop for gifts, and wrap gifts. Click here for more information .  This is a big endeavor and will make an indelible mark or our little friends. As always, we thank you for your support as members.
