House of Representatives Passes Forest Management Bill to Address Fire Borrowing Issue
On November 1, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2936, the Resilient Federal Forests Act of 2017, with bipartisan support. Introduced on June 20 by Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus (CSC) Member Congressman Bruce Westerman (AR), this legislation will help improve the health of federal forests and reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfires that are facing our nation. 

BLM Panel Approves Wild Horse and Burro Management Recommendations
Earlier this month, the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Council (Council) approved recommendations for reducing excessive populations of wild horses and burros on federal rangeland, including a resolution stating the agency should remove all "excess animals" within the next three years.

CSF Supports a New Direction for Atlantic Menhaden Management 
Atlantic menhaden, also known as "pogies" or "bunkers," are a small, boney, oily fish that play a critical role as forage for important recreational species including striped bass, summer flounder, bluefish and others. In a letter to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC), the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) urged the ASMFC to take the necessary steps to ensure a robust population of menhaden as they work to develop a menhaden-specific management model that accounts for the vital role this species plays in the population health of so many species of fish, marine mammals and birds along the Atlantic Coast. Midwest: Sportsmen-Legislators from Iowa and Illinois join NASC Executive Council
On October 26, Representative Terry Baxter (IA) and Representative Jerry Costello Jr. (IL) were elected to the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses Executive Council as Alternate Members. They join Representative Jeff Wardlaw (AR), who was recently elevated from an alternate member to a full member of the Executive Council, and Senator Mike Green (MI) in representing the Midwest region on the Council.
