Saltwater Anglers See Progress with Advanced Fisheries Legislation on Capitol Hill
Two important meetings occurred this week that give anglers some optimism regarding the future of federal marine recreational fisheries management. While the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council (SAFMC) moved forward with reopening the closed red snapper season, the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Power and Oceans held a hearing on four bills that seek to modify the Magnuson-Stevens Act (MSA), the federal law that governs most of our saltwater fisheries.   Read More > >

Maryland: Hunting Summit Provides Forum for Sportsmen's Policy Initiatives
On September 24, the Maryland Hunting Coalition hosted the 3rd Annual Hunting Summit in Annapolis, Maryland.  Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation's (CSF) Mid-Atlantic States Coordinator Kara Hartman and Federal Relations Coordinator Taylor Schmitz joined representatives from nearly 20 different sportsmen's organizations to present their organizational goals for the 2018 legislative session. Read More > >  

Mississippi: Governor Phil Bryant Holds Ceremony to Recognize National Hunting & Fishing Day
On September 22, Governors Sportsmen's Caucus  (GSC) Co-Chair Governor Phil Bryant of Mississippi hosted a signing ceremony for a National Hunting and Fishing Day proclamation. West Virginia: Sportsmen's Caucus Hosts Pig Roast in Charleston
On September 17, the West Virginia Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus hosted a pig roast at the Coonskin Park Club House in Charleston. Twenty members of the West Virginia Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus and numerous representatives from in-state sportsmen's groups and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources attended the event to enjoy an evening of discussion about recent sportsmen's policy successes and goals to further support West Virginia's outdoor sporting traditions and economy. Read More > >
