A Letter from Our Community Engagement Specialist

It is the holiday season, St. Clair Superior! I hope that you are spending time with your loved ones, and are enjoying our Cleveland winter! I have had such a wonderful time getting to know the neighborhood since I started my new position as the Community Engagement Specialist at St. Clair Superior Development Corporation (SCSDC) in August. I am truly inspired by all of the projects going on in the neighborhood and by all of the community members and business owners I have met thus far.

We have a couple of exciting updates this month... First off, our office has moved to the heart of the neighborhood! Our new address is 6413 St. Clair Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44103. Our phone numbers remain the same (216-881-0644), and our staff emails have not changed. Please stop by our new space and say hello!

I am happy to say that our Welcome Baskets are ready to be distributed! If you or someone you know are new to the St. Clair Superior Neighborhood, please email me so that I can deliver a Welcome Bag. The bags include St. Clair Superior t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, stickers, a St. Clair Superior “Buck” worth $10 at participating businesses, and lots of other information about our neighborhood. I cannot wait to start delivering these bags, and seeing neighbors sport our new merch!

We have also started hosting community meetings again and are looking forward to engaging the community. We had our first Business Mixer this year, a meeting about our Neighborhood Master Plan, and a meeting about Placemaking and Wayfinding in the neighborhood. Make sure you are following our social media to get the most up-to-date information about community meetings!

As we move into the winter months, I hope that you stay safe and warm. Make sure to follow city guidelines in order to keep yourself safe in the snow. Visit the city’s website to learn more about safety tips, and stay up to date with snow plowing efforts.

I want to thank you all for welcoming me into the neighborhood over the past few months. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our community!

Happy Holidays,
Maeve Kozak, SCSDC Community Engagement Specialist
Connecting Businesses in Our Neighborhood...

Earlier this month, SCSDC hosted a Business Mixer for the businesses in our neighborhood, both big and small. We had just under 30 people come and were able to give a brief presentation about our organization’s new strategic plan and upcoming projects in the neighborhood. Our businesses went around the tables giving introductions and later spent time networking and mingling with each other. Many people expressed just how happy they were to have an event like this taking place, and were thankful for having a space for business owners and stakeholders in St. Clair Superior to get together.

We want to give a big St. Clair Superior THANK YOU to our wonderful and dedicated businesses in our neighborhood for joining us at this event. We hope to see you and many more again soon!

We shared the Business Growth Compass tool from Greater Cleveland Partnership at our event, which can be viewed here or at the QR code below!
In Our Neighborhood... Bonnie Howard

Bonnie Howard is an active community member with a deep love for her neighborhood and community. Bonnie’s family has lived in their home in St. Clair Superior for three generations.

When asked what her favorite part of living in the neighborhood was, Bonnie demonstrated great pride in her neighborhood. “St. Clair Superior raised me, it nurtured me. I love my community,” she said. Bonnie loves how the neighbors in her community show up when they are needed. She hopes to see more of this neighborly love grow throughout the entire neighborhood.

Bonnie loves the small businesses in St. Clair Superior, which she believes are all gradually growing and getting better! Change naturally happens in neighborhoods, and she is glad to see what comes in the next 5-10 years. Bonnie would like to see more thriving businesses and more community!

Whether you live in the neighborhood, or are just visiting, Bonnie has plenty of recommendations for shopping and eating local. Currently, KafeLA is Bonnie’s go-to spot. She also recommends Annie B, Earl’s Place and Anchor Ultra Lounge for good eats in the neighborhood. As far as shopping goes, Bonnie suggested heading out to Lucky’s Charms and He Loves Curves. For hair and nails, Bonnie loves Shabazz Barber Shop and Diamond Cut Barbershop.

Bonnie is excited for our neighborhood's future and is looking forward to the growing diversity in terms of different restaurants and businesses that are coming in the area. She is hoping to see more family-friendly entertainment and some things on a bigger scale, like an indoor amusement park or indoor skating rink.

Thank you for being this month's feature, Bonnie, and for being our neighbor in St. Clair Superior!

Cleveland's North Coast Connector: Imagine a Lakefront for Everyone

The North Coast is Cleveland’s most stunning natural feature. But for years, residents have struggled to get there. Highways, railroads and a 65-foot bluff separate the city from the lakefront, making it nearly impossible to walk and bike to Lake Erie’s shore safely.

The North Coast Connector is a proposed land bridge connecting the grassy lawns of Mall C and City Hall to the lakefront. It would span over the railroad tracks and the Shoreway to restore access and repair more than a century-old divide. It would open up new land for community gatherings and future economic development.

To learn more, view their website, frequently asked questions or exhibit photos.

Take the survey here to share your experiences with Cleveland's lakefront in or around downtown.
