Quick Wins Art Project Coming to St. Clair Superior Neighborhood

If you have driven around the E. 65th St. and St. Clair Ave. section of the St. Clair Superior neighborhood in the last two weeks, you hopefully have seen the beautiful new mural by local artist Dayz Whun.

The mural is the first part of an art installation coming to the St. Clair Superior neighborhood to provide some identifying color and recognition to the neighborhood. The project, which is a partnership between the St. Clair Superior Development Corporation, the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation and LAND studio, will feature murals, graphic art walls and banners highlighting residents from and aspects of our neighborhood.

Even the artist for the project was recruited locally. Dayz Whun, the owner of Red Lion Tattoos, has created several beautiful murals in our community, including a mural on the side of Angela's Restaurant. This wonderful mural is just one of many pieces of art that the community can look forward to seeing come to the neighborhood.

The Quick Wins Project is one more way to add beauty to St. Clair Superior. We look forward to this project being finished, and later working to bring more art and culture projects and activity to the forefront of this beautiful lakefront neighborhood.

The Ohio Homebuyer Plus Program

Gov. Mike DeWine, Lt. Gov Jon Husted and Treasurer Robert Sprague have announced details of the Ohio Homebuyer Plus Program, a new savings account plan designed to encourage homeownership in Ohio.

This program will make specialized savings accounts available to Ohioans to assist them on their home buying journey. Prospective homebuyers can open Homebuyer Plus accounts through participating financial institutions beginning in January 2024.

The program is being supported by the Ohio general assembly, as part of the state operating budget signed in July 2023. “Ohio is the best place to live, work, and raise a family, and we want to continue to create new opportunities to build a life in our state” said Lt. Gov Husted.

To qualify for enhanced interest savings through an Ohio Homebuyer Plus account, an eligible account holder must:

  • Be an Ohio resident at least 18 years of age
  • Have a primary residence in the state of Ohio
  • Only use the account savings/proceeds towards a down payment or closing cost of a primary residence purchased in Ohio
  • Accounts connected with Ohio Homebuyer Plus must be used within five years, maintain a minimum balance of $100 and cannot exceed $100,000

The program launches in January 2024! Prospective homebuyers will work with participating banks and credit unions to apply for a savings account through Ohio Homebuyer Plus.

Tree Canopy in Our Neighborhood

Davey Resource Group has been conducting a tree inventory of St. Clair Superior. They will be going location by location identifying tree specious, tree status, and locations for future tree planting. They will complete their survey in early 2024 and later will be drafting a tree management plan for the neighborhood and community to review before the final draft is produced. This project is made possible by grants from the Cuyahoga County Healthy Tree Canopy and the Cleveland Tree Coalition. The management plan will be utilized by St. Clair Superior and its work with the Western Reserve Land Conservancy to increase the City of Cleveland’s tree canopy within our neighborhood.
