FOCUS USA and the Ismaili Community Support National Covid-19 Vaccination Efforts
Upon taking office, United States President Joe Biden committed to an initial goal of administering 100 million vaccinations in the country. The day after his inauguration, Focus Humanitarian Assistance USA (FOCUS USA) received a call from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) voluntary agency coordination team to help support the national vaccination effort.

In partnership with community volunteers, FOCUS USA worked with FEMA and county public health offices to assist and expedite vaccinations in Texas, California, Illinois, Georgia, and Washington State.

Over 125 healthcare professionals volunteered over 800 hours towards vaccinating, screening, and registering patients across the country.

Preparing ahead can save lives
On May 20, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center predicted “another above-normal Atlantic hurricane season” for 2021. Last year’s hurricane season reached a historic level of storm activity with 30 named storms, 7 major hurricanes, and producing over $51 billion in damages nationally. Year 2020 can serve as a reminder to all residents in coastal regions and areas prone to inland flooding from rainfall to be prepared for the 2021 hurricane season.
