In Our Neighborhood... BigHearted Blooms

For this month’s business spotlight, we are excited to introduce BigHearted Blooms.

BigHearted Blooms is a non-profit organization that was founded by Sue Buddenbaum in 2018. It was created around the core mission to build community through personal moments of kindness. BigHearted Blooms works to mitigate the effects of loneliness and isolation – primarily on those residing in care facilities – by surprising them with bouquets of recycled flowers. Volunteers break down floral arrangement that have been collected from grocers, weddings, and other events that would have otherwise been thrown away. New bouquets are arranged and delivered to those in need of an emotional lift. BigHearted Blooms provides simple acts of kindness that has the enormous impact of lifting spirits and bringing a renewed energy to help individuals through life’s challenges.

In 2021, BigHearted Blooms volunteers delivered bouquets to over 5,200 individuals. While they primarily serve senior citizens, they also serve those facing other life challenges, from cancer, dialysis, organ transplant to substance abuse and domestic violence recovery.

Sue Buddenbaum loves working out of St. Clair Superior and getting the opportunity to explore the variety of businesses and restaurants. She is always eager to share to her latest finds to those who come to the neighborhood. When asked about her thoughts for the future of St. Clair Superior, Sue is most excited about the re-energization of the neighborhood and watching the community become more connected. She is excited for her first Neighbor-to-Neighbor event this fall in St. Clair Superior, where she hopes to enlist neighbors in the community to volunteer.

If you are interested in volunteering for BigHearted Blooms or learning more about this amazing organization, please visit their website.

Property Tax Assistance Program Through CHN

CHN Housing Partner’s Property Tax Assistance Program is designed to prevent displacement and foreclosure of homeowners when that default is due to an inability to pay property taxes due to a pandemic-related hardship. Funded by the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) via U.S. Department of the Treasury, these funds are made available through the American Rescue Plan of 2021. Funds are currently available through December 31, 2022.

Cuyahoga County homeowners who qualify for the program can access a one-time grant of up to $10,000 to pay for property taxes. Assistance is available for owner occupied households where the property serves as the owner's primary residence.

Applications are processed on a first come, first serve basis. Information on program guidelines, eligibility criteria, and required documentation is available through the program application page found here (no paper application is currently available). Download the program flyer here.
