The Mandel Foundation Continues Community Investments in St. Clair Superior
A World-Class Sailing Center is Coming to Our Neighborhood
Did you hear the good news? Planned for the E. 55th Street Marina and the first of its kind along Lake Erie in Ohio, the Community Sailing Center will provide unprecedented public access and sailing opportunities to St. Clair Superior and our neighbors in Glenville, Hough and AsiaTown, as well as Greater Cleveland.
Two new facilities will make up the Community Sailing Center, with multi-purpose learning spaces, indoor and outdoor community areas, concessions, dining and much more. The Sailing Center will also host year-round Sailing STEM programming and hands-on educational experiences for youth, adults and families.
The Mandel Foundation’s investments in the Community Sailing Center, Gordon Park South, the Mandel Community Trail, placemaking efforts and a tree canopy expansion in St. Clair Superior total over $16 million in community-facing investments designed to better connect residents to existing neighborhood assets. These investments will help SCSDC continue its mission of creating a place where people live, thrive and experience the good things happening in our neighborhood.

In Our Neighborhood... Quality Shoe Repair
Donald Kilgo Sr. has owned Quality Shoe Repair LLC since 2012, but his history of shoe repair services goes much further back than that. After graduating from Collinwood High School in 1973, Donald attended Manpower training school where he apprenticed under the former owner of his current building. There, he learned how to fix “one pair at a time,” but also how to repair shoes at a factory level. Since then, his journey has taken him to the Lincoln Building, the IMG Building, Tower City, as well as his first shop in Euclid in 1981.
Now, Donald resides in East Cleveland but reminisces on the good old days of growing up in Cleveland. Thinking back about the 60s, he is reminded of the days when his mother would take him down to the May Company and Halle Brothers to get a new pair of shoes or do some window shopping. Back then, the sidewalks were packed, almost like New York City, so people had to walk in the streets to get by. He mentions that this was a good time, with good people. It was peaceful. The neighborhoods looked out for its residents and the kids could run around and play safely.

IngenuityFest 2024: Era of Ascent
Join us at IngenuityLabs for IngenuityFest 2024: Era of Ascent! We will spread our wings and take flight in celebration of Ingenuity’s 20th anniversary season of programming and 100,000 sq. ft. expansion of IngenuityLabs, a permanent home for creativity and innovation in Cleveland.
The weekend-long festival will feature a mix of hands-on activities for all ages; multiple stages filled with music and dance performances; and plenty of opportunities to interact with innovative and immersive exhibits that explore the human fascination with flight from scientific, artistic, and technological perspectives.

Introducing... New Faces at SCSDC
Bill Splete
Bill serves as the Assistant Director of Housing and Economic Development at SCSDC, where he manages the 50/50 Housing Match Grant Program, WRAAA Nail It Program and the NIB Forfeiture Program. He also responds to resident’s requests for services and helps them find the right fit. Outside of SCSDC, Bill is a father of 8, grandfather to 1 and has been married for 25 years. Bill’s favorite thing about St. Clair Superior so far is the people and he is looking forward to seeing the impact of large capital investments like Gordon Park South and the Community Sailing Center.
Britiny Hubbard
Britiny is the Manager of Community Engagement at SCSDC and she is tasked with fostering deeper relationships and connections with and between residents, organizing volunteer groups, block clubs and planning events to make a positive impact. She is looking forward to community block clubs making a comeback and, aside from the residents themselves, one of Britiny’s favorite things about St. Clair Superior is the food. Britiny is a Cleveland native with roots in St. Clair Superior and Glenville and she has a passion for community-based work, which has been a main factor in her career path.
Natalie Canter
Natalie is an AmeriCorps VISTA member working towards expanding affordable housing programs and initiatives at SCSDC. After volunteering at a housing rights organization and spending a year researching affordable housing and zoning, Natalie knew she wanted to continue working and advocating for quality, affordable housing. Natalie believes that as our neighborhood evolves, it is important to increase access to quality housing options while maintaining affordability. Natalie loves seeing small businesses find their place and grow within community and is excited to learn more about the unique makeup of our neighborhood.

Trees4CLE Tree Adoption
The Western Reserve Land Conservancy's Fall Trees4CLE tree adoption application is live! Available only to Cleveland residents, the Land Conservancy offers an opportunity to apply for trees that are either native or proven hardy for our region and the urban environment. Multiple species are available this Fall including small flowering trees, beautiful shade trees, fruit trees, legacy trees and evergreens.
Residents can apply to get up to two trees for their yard completely free. The application and other details, like eligibility requirements, can be found here.
