Holiday Party Enjoyed By All
Congratulations and a big thank you to the Social Committee for their efforts in presenting our annual holiday party on December 4. The clubhouse was beautifully decorated, right down to the glowing, red nose featured on one of our taxidermy displays. And, the Italian food, from Elizabeth's in Denton, was delicious and plentiful.

Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time, so why not make plans to attend next year?

And From The Social Committee...
The 2021 holiday party was quite a success. Seventy-two residents and one guest were welcomed into a beautifully-decorated clubhouse with many poinsettias. Seating was set up in the library, the main room, and the party tent on the deck, which left lots of room for socializing. Guests were greeted with an hors d’oeuvre table prior to going through the Italian buffet and sitting down for dinner. We are very thankful to have secured the catering services of Elizabeth's Pizza from right here in Denton. We want to thank Flowers by Patty, also from Denton, for loaning The Springs a beautiful centerpiece for the main banquet table.

Special thanks go out to the Social Committee members who planned the party, decorated the hall, and hosted this delightful evening. Chairwoman Prudy Mitchell, Ali Bachand, Sally Barnhart, Karen Beard, Laurie Bushey, Joan Feierstein, Cathy Moore, Cindy Pflumm, Angie Robusto , and Liz Tilley each contributed to this event.

Additional thanks to Jim Bachand, Dave Mitchell, and Steve Barnhart for setting up the banquet tent on the deck and to all those who helped take down the tables, chairs, and tent. Many hands made light work.

Did you know? Jon Bon Jovi’s recording debut wasn’t his first album. It was a track on the Star Wars-themed Christmas album in 1980, “R2-D2, We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

Short-Term Rental Ballot Initiative:
Volunteers Needed
During the recent annual meeting of the HOA, the board introduced a ballot proposal restricting the short-term rental of property to be voted on by the membership. It is anticipated the proposal would be mailed to the membership early next year.

Representatives of two-thirds of the total number of lots forming our HOA will need to vote in favor of the proposal for it to be included in our Covenants.

A number of volunteers will be needed to follow up and petition members for the return of those ballots. If you are interested in assisting in this effort, please respond to the HOA Board of Directors.

Trivia Answer:
Angels with Filthy Souls

If you’ve watched Home Alone a time or two, you’re most certainly familiar with the black and white gangster film that appears within the movie.

When Kevin discovers that he got his Christmas wish and his family is actually gone, he runs wild in the house, ending his day with a giant bowl of ice cream while watching a gangster film that, presumably, his parents would never have let him watch. The portion we see Kevin watch features two gangsters named Johnny and Snakes with memorable quotes like Johnny yelling, “Keep the change, ya filthy animal!” followed by a barrage of gunfire aimed at Snakes. Kevin not only watches the movie, but later uses it to prank an unsuspecting pizza boy and to trick the burglars into thinking armed criminals are already in the house.

The title of the gangster film is seen briefly when Kevin inserts the videotape into the VHS player and, if you didn’t know any better, you’d assume that Angels with Filthy Souls is some old-timey flick you’d never heard of. Alas, you won’t be able to sit down and see the full drama between Johnny and Snakes. The entirety of the gangster film is what you see in Home Alone—it’s a fake film shot explicitly as a perfectly-topical little package just for the movie it appears in.

If you simply must sit down and watch a film about gangsters with a similar title, however, feel free to check out 1938’s Angels with Dirty Faces, which we’re rather confident, is the inspiration for the title found in the Home Alone.
