Living the Beatitudes

St. Matthew Episcopal Church will be hosting an evening study group on the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-10).

The purpose of this study is to reflect on how each of the 8 Beatitudes are relevant to our lives today. Given the current turmoil in our society and our global world, the Beatitudes can offer us the spiritual instructions we need to lead our lives in ways that bring us closer to Jesus’ teachings.

The Beatitude study group will meet on Tuesdays April 21,28 2026 in the Parish Hall from 5:30-7:30 PM. A study guide and a light dinner will be provided. All parishioners, friends, and our neighbors in the community are welcome to participate.

For more information or to sign up, please contact Kathy.

Volunteering Opportunity

For those interested in volunteering to pack weekend meals for local students through the efforts of the Northeast Tacoma Healthy Kids organization, the sign-up is now open; https://www.nethealthykids.org

This group is completely sustained through donations and volunteer efforts. It provides weekend bags of food to identified children who attend Browns Point, Crescent Heights, Northeast Tacoma, Meeker, and Stadium.

The May packing opportunities are the final dates for the current school year.

Our St. Matthew Sign

For many of our neighbors, our St. Matthew sign is the primary way that they learn about our church. But, our sign had been ailing! Much of the lighting was inoperative, the upper faces were losing their sharpness, and the lower faces were not holding the letters.

Now, thanks to the generous gift of an anonymous donor, our St. Matthew sign has new faces and letters and updated, LED lighting. The donation was made in memory of our Rector Emeritus, Fr. Pete Stanton.

Thank you for updating this important sign and thank you Rudy for keeping our messages up to date.

Parishioner Homilies

On occasions when Reverend Hilary is unavailable, we substitute Morning Prayer for Holy Eucharist. On these Sundays, we would like the homily to be given by a parishioner.

If you can share a blessing you’ve received, a memory of how grace has touched your life, an example of God’s force in your life, or perhaps your faith journey, we invite you to present it in a homily.

If you are willing, please contact Gary or Diane.

St. Matthew is On Line!

Thanks to the efforts of Rudy, St. Matthew services are available for viewing on line.

Outreach Opportunity for St. Matthew parishioners

Volunteers are needed to help pack lunches at Browns Point Elementary school for low income kids in the Northeast Tacoma neighborhood. This entails about an hour once a month. The Northeast Healthy Kids Coalition organizes the program. Please contact Diane if you are interested.

Emergency Food Pantry

Help us support our community by bringing non-perishable food on Sundays (and throughout the week), to stock our St. Matthew food pantry.
