Rain Stays Away for Annual Easter Egg Hunt
As Saturday, April 13, was approaching, experts in Augusta, GA, and Charleston, SC, anxiously consulted weather reports to figure out how their events might be impacted if the rain followed through on its threat to pour down. The worry was all for naught, though, as the weather for both the 2019 Masters Tournament and the 2019 St. Philip’s Easter Egg Hunt was perfect!

Haitian Art: Reminders of Our Mission
Tea Room Gift Shop Sneak Peek
by Clarke S. Wallace, Jr., World Missions Committee
Haitian art is a representation of its culture and people. Several beautiful Haitian paintings will be available at this year’s Tea Room. The paintings were aquired by members of the St. Philip’s mission trip teams over the past several years, and donations for the paintings will go towards this meaningful world mission partnership.
Ours is a mission of presence through prayer, visitation, encouragement, and financial support for our sister church, St. Jean Baptiste, and its parishioners, schools, and community. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and for the past 25 years, St. Philip’s has been fully engaged in its efforts, partnering with God to provide and improve access to healthcare, education for children and adults, economic opportunity, sanitation, and clean water. The parishioners of St. Philip’s and St. Jean Baptiste share the love of Christ and the hope that the people of Haiti are not forgotten. It’s a beautiful relationship with Christ in the center.
St. Philip’s next mission to Haiti is coming up June 19-24. If you’re interested in joining this small team of 12, please call or email Gerry McCord (843-224-1342 or
gerrymccord@gmail.com

Final Exam Care Packages Have Arrived!
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” ––2 Timothy 1:7
As early as Saturday, April 13, college students feeling the weight of upcoming final exams received some goodies in the mail to help them cope with stress and remind them that their St. Philip’s family is here at home rooting for them!
Dozens of names were submitted by parents and grandparents over the past few weeks, and on Thursday, April 11, a team led by the Rev. Ryan Streett gathered in a parlor filled with mounds of easy-to-prepare (or ready-to-eat!) brain fuel, including macaroni and cheese, protein bars, hot chocolate, and popcorn––and Chef Connie Stahl’s famous chocolate chip cookies!
After Amy Watson Smith bagged the cookies, Elizabeth Strickland and Felicia Lescow carefully boxed and labeled them.
Care packages contained many other little gifts, including cards written by Ann Harrington (above), stress reliever toys and Play-Doh, Bible verses, and Starbucks gift cards. After the packages were assembled with Henry Ford-esque efficiency, Allison McAdams taped them up.
Ministry to college students is ongoing–– if you haven’t already, please send the Rev. Ryan Streett (
rstreett@stphilipschurchsc.org) your student’s address for inclusion in next year’s mailing list, and remember to add a student email address if you’d like him or her to receive the weekly eSPIRE newsletter!

Women Reading God’s Word
With Cynthia Patteson and Dorothy Lancaster
Four Wednesdays beginning May 8 ~ 7:15 p.m., location on campus TBD
• Have you ever wanted to study God’s Word but felt daunted by the task?
• Have you been determined to start reading the Bible only to start but lose momentum quickly?
• Have you ever felt confused or lost when reading a passage in the Bible?
• Are you looking for ways to get more out of your quiet time with God?
• Do you enjoying reading the Word but need a little encouragement?
• Are you looking for a way to get connected with other women of St. Philip’s?
If you answered yes to any of these questions (or even if you didn’t), please consider joining us for a new women’s class in May. We will be exploring ways and reasons why we should study God’s Word. The only book you will need is a Bible. We will be using the ESV version and will have copies available to share if you don’t have an ESV of your own.
