A Great Debt! Who Can Pay?
In his Easter sermon, the Rev. Jeff Miller illustrated Jesus’ gift to us with a story he’d read by Harry Allen Ironside, former pastor of Moody Church in Chicago. In the story, a young man, the son of a friend of Czar Nicholas of Russia, had been given a post as paymaster in a border fortress. A gambling problem, though, soon led him to begin taking a few rubles here and there from the money entrusted to him; he didn’t realize how much he’d taken until one day he received word that an official was coming the next day to examine the books. Confronted with the magnitude of his debt and realizing he had no way to set things right, he decided the only way out was to end it, and he readied his service revolver.

Building Up the Local Church in Mexico
by Kausha Luna, originally published on watermission.org
At the end of 2018, Water Mission’s staff in Mexico connected with ASELSI (Associa- tion Equipping the Saints International), a nonprofit organization based in Guatemala. In partnership with Water Mission, ASELSI provides basic theology training to new believers in communities we are serving with safe water projects. Our relationship with ASELSI has created opportunities for spiritual growth within the communities we serve, and birthed hope for the deeper work we wish to accomplish.
At Water Mission, we aim to build up the local church as it pursues the call to proclaim and demonstrate the gospel. Our vision spans wider than water: We are working toward a world in which all people have access to safe water and an opportunity to experience God’s love. We are grateful for partners that not only share this foundational belief, but also collaborate with us in making it a reality through the projects we implement around the world.

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-7
God has given you (yes, you!) gifts for ministry, and there is no greater joy than discovering these gifts and finding ways to use them in the service of Christ. Join Brian McGreevy, Frenchie Richards, and Andrew O’Dell for a Spiritual Gifts workshop and find out what God has planned for you!

Women Reading God’s Word
With Cynthia Patteson and Dorothy Lancaster
Four Wednesdays beginning May 8 ~ 7:15 p.m., location on campus TBD
• Have you ever wanted to study God’s Word but felt daunted by the task?
• Have you been determined to start reading the Bible only to start but lose momentum quickly?
• Have you ever felt confused or lost when reading a passage in the Bible?
• Are you looking for ways to get more out of your quiet time with God?
• Do you enjoying reading the Word but need a little encouragement?
• Are you looking for a way to get connected with other women of St. Philip’s?
If you answered yes to any of these questions (or even if you didn’t), please consider joining us for a new women’s class in May. We will be exploring ways and reasons why we should study God’s Word. The only book you will need is a Bible. We will be using the ESV version and will have copies available to share if you don’t have an ESV of your own.
