The Gift of Love at Christmas
by Marsee Lee
|
|
Our family has purchased freshly cut Frasier fir Christmas trees from Wishon Tree Farm for several years. This year was no different. Our friends Faron and Ethan Atwood, a father and son from Sparta, NC, oversee this tree lot by the American Legion at 968 Folly Road every year.
On December 17, Ethan contacted me to ask if I knew of any charitable organization in the Charleston area that would like to have “leftover” trees to use for a fundraiser or “to brighten their building”––he was thinking perhaps a children’s home or Boy Scout chapter. They did not want to see their beautiful trees go to waste and would happily deliver them anywhere in the Charleston area. So I called Amey Warder, a St. Philip’s Home Missions Committee member, who immediately reached out to Tricounty Family Ministries to offer the 30 Christmas trees.

School of Healing Prayer® Ministry: Level l
5:30 p.m. on Mondays in the Parlor beginning February 10
|
|
In the fourth chapter of Luke’s Gospel, Jesus stood up in the temple and read from Isaiah 61: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.” Later he passed on this ministry to the disciples and ultimately to the entire church (Matthew 10, Luke 10).
We will be offering a 10-week course, developed by Christian Healing Ministries, which will help us to receive prayer and healing for ourselves while training and equipping us to pray for others. Topics we will be covering include spiritual oppression, physical and emotional/inner healing of wounds and hurts, healing through forgiveness, and many others. To sign up, please contact Juanita Orvin (
juanitaorvin@gmail.com
or 843-884-4018) or the Rev. Ryan Streett (
rstreett@stphilipschurchsc.org
).

Thank You from the Compassion Committee!
|
|
Our church members have done it again! We would like to thank all of you who helped deliver the poinsettias that were sent to our church family members who have lost a loved one this year, who are on our prayer list, or who are unable to get to church, and to our faithful and hardworking staff and clergy. This is an important and growing part of the Compassion Committee’s ministry, and we could not have done without your help. After the Lessons and Carols service, you picked up 90 poinsettias and delivered them all over the Lowcountry! We are so grateful. Our heartfelt thanks.
We would like to thank the members of this amazing committee for their willingness to serve. During 2019, we delivered 47 meals, plus 59 more meals generated through the Care Calendar for the Graudins. We delivered 11 hams and 43 flower arrangements, plus 16 Easter lilies and the 90 poinsettias! Our committed note writers prayerfully wrote at least 95 notes (not all counted as of today) to church members struggling with health issues or the loss of a loved one. One committee member faithfully made home visits to a couple dozen church members.
If you would like to help with this ministry, please contact the church office. We always welcome new helping hands!

About the camp (from stchristopher.org):
Our goal is for campers to return home with a better understanding of who they are as individuals created for a purpose within God’s plan. Our staff of well-trained, college-age, Christian leaders works to see campers’ lives formed by the power and truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
During the day, campers participate in activities such as hiking through our pristine maritime forest, sailing and kayaking in the estuary, team building, seining, rock climbing, games, and much more, along with daily chapel and small-group Bible study.
