“Walk for Water” this Saturday:
Don't Miss Out!
by the Rev. Brian McGreevy
|
|
The Water Mission Walk for Water is this Saturday, and there is still time to join the St. Philip’s clergy and our team (at last tally 30 strong) for this amazing event. I have lost count of the number of times I’ve participated in the Walk for Water, but every time it is a huge blessing. Having had the privilege of seeing the life-changing and life-giving work of Water Mission when I’ve been in Haiti and Honduras, I can personally testify to what an extraordinary ministry this is. So often we feel powerless and overwhelmed by all the troubles in the world and don’t know how to make a difference for good––well, here’s your chance! YOU can change someone’s life through the gift of clean water and the Living Water of the Gospel by being part of this Walk. The absolute best way is to come join our fellowship as we walk together, but you can also support through prayer or your generous financial contribution supporting our team. Click the link below to sign up––you will be glad you did!
|
|
Quick “Walk” info
• Plenty of free parking available (arrive early to check out the festivities!)
• Our team will meet at 8:55 in front of the large climbing wall
• Yes, some St. Philip’s clergy will be walking with us!
• The walk is about three miles and takes about an hour (easy terrain––walk at your own pace)

The Ultimate Artist
Reflections on the ECW Spring Dinner
by Dottie Leonard
|
|
I felt I was going to be blessed when I was drawn to attend the ECW Spring Dinner as the subject matter intrigued me: “Deep Calls to Deep: God at Work Through Visual Art.” The guest speaker, the Rev. Kate Norris, aimed to show how our missionary God could be approaching us through visual art, especially in times of great pain.
She presented two diverse artists in her deliberation: Leo Twiggs, a contemporary artist here in South Carolina, and the modern artist Pablo Picasso. Both artists express pain and suffering in their works.
Leo Twiggs did nine paintings on batik––one for each of the nine victims of the Mother Emanuel church shooting here in Charleston. One of the paintings was significantly moving to me as he depicted the Mother Emanuel Church with targets at the base that rise up to crosses in reaching the spire of the church. His painting showed how, when going through unimaginable pain, we can be raised up with hope.

New 7-week Prayer Study Begins Next Week
Tuesdays at noon in the Parlor beginning April 2
|
|
Join Marnie Kerrison for a study of
Forgotten Power: A Simple Theology for a Praying Church by David Butts. This seven-week class will go through the material in the book as well as spend time in prayer.
From the back cover of
Forgotten Power: “No one argues against prayer, but few churches utilize prayer as a power source. Yet in the Scriptures and in the early church, prayer was the primary method used to tap into the power of the Holy Spirit. So why don’t we use it much?
Forgotten Power clearly challenges the main reason that churches do not pray––people do not understand the ‘whys’ of prayer.” To join the class, call Marnie at 843-475-4225 or click below to email her.

God's Feet and Hands in St. Philip's
2018 Report from the Compassion Committee
by Monti Hanger and Callie McLaurin
|
|
Callie McLaurin (left) and Monti Hanger, Compassion Committee Co-Chairs
The Compassion Committee (CC) continues to deliver meals when needed, hams when there is a death, flowers, notes of encouragement, notes for bereavement, and home visits. We are blessed again with a responsive committee and another great year. We have about 80-plus members on our email list for the committee, and usually when we send an email asking for a meal, we get a response in seconds! If you can deliver one meal a year, this committee is for you! Call the church office if you would like to join.
We wanted to share with you all the evidence of God working through you, Christ’s feet and hands in our St. Philip’s. In 2016 we began an ongoing Care Calendar to help a parishioner with meals as she began to face tremendous physical challenges. In 2016 the CC delivered 27 meals, 2017––51 meals, and in 2018––68 meals. In the beginning of 2018, it became apparent that more help was needed. Two people answered our prayer and began on their own taking a weekly meal to this family. Callie and I call these extra meal deliveries our “St Philip’s Angels,” not a direct part of the CC. A third person has since taken over so that an extra weekly meal has been taken since February 2018.
