Thank You to the 2019 Tea Room Volunteers!
|
|
Harry Gregorie, Jane McGreevy, and Carol Robinson were among the hundreds of people who lent their hands and hearts to this year’s Tea Room.
|
|
On behalf of my co-chair, Amanda Steinhardt, and the entire Tea Room Committee, I would like to thank you so very much for all of the hard work and effort that each and every one of you put into last week! The weather was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the crowds were steady and strong. I personally enjoyed meeting so many new people and getting to know fellow church members.
We know that taking time away from your job, family, and day is a sacrifice and commitment, and we thank you! We are all so blessed and fortunate to have such a wonderful church home at St. Philip’s.
Thank you!
Hope Gamble, 2019 Tea Room Co-Chair

Star Gospel Supply Drive a Great Success!
by Doug Ringer, Home Missions Committee
|
|
Proverbs 11:25 in the NIV reads, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” So, St. Philippians, you should be feeling as fresh as a daisy these days! The recent supply drive for the Star Gospel Mission, culminating in a final push on May 5, has, at last count, provided the following items for the mission: 53 paper towels rolls, 55 washcloths, 2 bath mats, 17 sheet sets, 21 pillow cases, 2 blankets, 170 toilet paper rolls, 5010 napkins, 944 paper dinner plates, 28 small paper plates, 32 paper bowls, 30 plastic cups, 52 soaps, 14 pillows, 6 tissue boxes, 43 bath towels, 23 hand towels, 13 sheets without pillowcases, 1 mattress pad, (2) $25 Walmart gift cards, (2) $25 Target gift cards.
The Rev. Bill Christian, director of the mission, has expressed his deep gratitude for our church’s generosity. Please pray for our Home Missions committee as we hope and plan for deeper involvement with our city mission partners. For those who could not donate last Sunday, feel free to drop supplies by the church office and committee members will get the items to the mission. Remember Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 9:7, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

|
|
• Have you ever wanted to study God’s Word but felt daunted by the task?
• Have you been determined to start reading the Bible only to start but lose momentum quickly?
• Have you ever felt confused or lost when reading a passage in the Bible?
• Are you looking for ways to get more out of your quiet time with God?
• Do you enjoying reading the Word but need a little encouragement?
• Are you looking for a way to get connected with other women of St. Philip’s?

Join Dorothy Lancaster and Cynthia Patteson for a new women’s class in May! We will be exploring ways and reasons why we should study God’s Word, and the only materials you will need are a notepad and your ESV Bible (we will have copies available to share if you don’t have an ESV of your own).

National Day of Prayer: Loving One Another
originally published on watermission.org
by Molly Greene, Co-founder, Chair, & Chief Stewardship Officer of Water Mission
|
|
What a privilege and blessing it is to live in a country where we have the freedom to participate in a National Day of Prayer. Created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed by President Harry S. Truman, the National Day of Prayer is significant because it prompts us to remember how our founding fathers sought the wisdom of God when making decisions. Each year, the first Thursday of May is set aside as a time to pray for our nation and to come humbly before God, seeking His guidance for our leaders, unity for our country, and His grace upon each of us.
At Water Mission, we believe that prayer is inseparable from our work of providing access to safe water in rural communities and disaster areas. While we always strive to ensure that our practices and technology are best-in-class, it is through the Lord’s providence and provision that we’ve been able to install safe water and sanitation solutions, foster community development, cultivate relationships, and shepherd resources effectively and widely. Without prayer, we wouldn’t just be lost—we would be amiss. Our vision is to see all people have access to safe water and an opportunity to experience God’s love. And our mission of ending the global water crisis—which affects 2.1 billion people—can seem insurmountable, but we face this work with the power of prayer.

Generations Ministry Spring Finale:
Calling all Grandparents!
Wednesday, May 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall
|
|
Grandparents, join us for the Generations Ministry spring finale on May 22! Our speaker is the Rev. Brian McGreevy, St. Philip’s resident C.S. Lewis scholar, who will speak on Lewis’s beloved allegorical children’s series
The Chronicles of Narnia and how grandparents might use it to connect with and minister to their grandchildren.
The Generations team will also be giving a brief report on the ministry’s inaugural year. Lynn Land will recap this year’s meetings and tell us of upcoming fall opportunities where we grandparents can learn from each other in small groups and dive more deeply into intentional grandparenting as we discover what the Bible says about our role. Amy Watson Smith, St. Philip’s Director of Ministry to Children and Families, will give us a sneak preview of St. Philip’s Vacation Bible School (June 10-13)––she always has resources for us grandparents to share with our precious grandchildren.
Don’t miss this final Generations event before summer break!

Musical Instruments and Toothbrushes Needed!
Haiti Annual Feast Day Mission ~ June 19-24, 2019

The team heading to Haiti will hand-carry your generous donations of:
Musical instruments: new or gently used wind instruments, guitars, and battery-powered keyboards. Help the children make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
General dental supplies: children’s toothbrushes, small tubes of toothpaste, and dental floss.
Items can be dropped off in the church office, or we will gladly pick them up. St. Philip’s is the sole supply source for our sister church community, and we hand-deliver to them each year. We thank you in advance for your kind and generous donations for these basic needs.
