Generations Ministry Spring Finale:
Calling all Grandparents!
Wednesday, May 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall
|
|
Grandparents, join the Rev. Brian McGreevy, St. Philip’s resident C.S. Lewis scholar, for the Generations Ministry spring finale tonight at 7:00 p.m.! C.S. Lewis’s
The Chronicles of Narnia and his letters to children are marvelous resources for grandparents to use to share the Truth of the Gospel with their grandchildren in a winsome and age-appropriate way.
All are welcome to join us for worship and supper (beginning at 5:30 p.m.) before the event. Come and learn some creative ways to use these resources for family ministry!

“St. Philip’s Day” at Tricounty Family Ministries
by Ruthie Lilly
|
|
I am proud to be a member of the St Philip’s family of volunteers that took part in preparing and serving lunch at Tricounty Family Ministries last Wednesday. Marc Boutan, Ben Hagood, and Andrew O’Dell provided beautiful praise music along with a rendition of “Happy Birthday” to Ryan Streett. The diners enjoyed the music as well as a fabulous barbecue meal donated by Jimmy Hagood. The fellowship among the volunteers and the guests was amazing and God’s love abounded.
Serving the guests is truly a privilege and a heartwarming experience available throughout the year on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. It only takes a few hours of your day to volunteer to serve food and share a smile and God’s love with people in need.
Above: Bob Kunes and Ruthie Lilly, flanked by other St. Philip’s
volunteers, ready a BBQ plate for a Tricounty guest on May 15.

What’s Another Word for Hospitality?
“McAdams!”
by David Gilbert, St. Philip’s Youth Minister
|
|
Sunday, May 19, was a gorgeous day and our last high school youth group of the season. What was different about this when compared to other senior high send-offs? The McAdams family hosted our youth group at their home on Shem Creek. Allison (Mrs. McAdams) had been asking me for a while to please take her up on her offer to host us during a high tide. She twisted my arm so hard that I just couldn’t say no any longer!
It was fate that the date of the last youth group was the perfect night to host us. As all the kids arrived, we were greeted at the door by the gentle, warm, and larger-than-life smile of Allison. I said, “May the Lord be with you!” and all of the youth sang the response back (some better than others!). I then led the group in a prayer of joy and thanksgiving for the Spirit of hospitality. Allison walked us through their beautiful home, which is full of eclectic art, family treasures, pictures, and love. She took us out the back door, through their screened-in porch, and down the stairs to the marsh. We ducked under an old oak dripping fat with Spanish moss. The breeze was gentle and the golden sun was starting its descent towards the west.

Happy Birthday, Ryan Streett!
by Sarah Silcox
|
|
Members of the Rev. Ryan Streett’s College Fellowship gathered for a birthday bonfire at the Streett residence on May 15.
This past Wednesday, the young adults of College Fellowship came together to celebrate Ryan’s birthday. As I was looking across the table at everyone in attendance, I came to realize that we were celebrating so much more than Ryan’s birthday. We were celebrating God’s work through one man. Ryan brought God’s plan to life. Through one way or another, Ryan brought all of us together to that one table, full of his wife Anna’s delicious food (if you didn’t know, Anna is an AMAZING cook). Through spiritual guidance, encouragement, and tabletop soccer, Ryan has helped the young adults of this group further our faith and spiritual maturity.

Website Updates Coming Soon
|
|
Over the next few months, St. Philip's staff will be working on organizing the website so that parishioners can easily find the information they're looking for and visitors and newcomers know right away what we're about, what to expect at our services, and how they can get involved in the life of our parish. Our goal is a user-friendly, intuitive website, but if you find yourself having any trouble locating a particular page or bit of information as we update, please talk to any member of the church staff or call the church office at (843) 722-7734.

Musical Instruments and Toothbrushes Needed!
Haiti Annual Feast Day Mission ~ June 19-24, 2019
|
|
The team heading to Haiti will hand-carry your generous donations of:
Musical instruments: new or gently used wind instruments, guitars, and battery-powered keyboards. Help the children make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
General dental supplies: children’s toothbrushes, small tubes of toothpaste, and dental floss.
Thank you to all who have already donated! Items can be dropped off in the church office, or we will gladly pick them up. St. Philip’s is the sole supply source for our sister church community, and we hand-deliver to them each year. We thank you in advance for your kind and generous donations for these basic needs.
