“Trusting God:
A Leap of Faith in the World of Business”
First Wednesday Men’s Lunch
with the Rev. Brian K. McGreevy
|
|
Before the Rev. Brian McGreevy was ministering to the people of Charleston and acting as St. Philip’s resident C.S. Lewis scholar, he owned a bed and breakfast with his wife, Jane. Before that, he had spent some fifteen years in law and international management consulting, rising through the ranks to become Managing Director of LOMA, an Atlanta-based trade association of more than 1,200 insurance and financial services companies in 80 countries. Find out how God intervened in his life in the midst of major career success to call him to a deeper faith in following Him as he and Jane and their family left that life and started their own business in Charleston.

Meals and So Much More:
Touring Tricounty Family Ministries
by Mary Rohaley
|
|
On Wednesday, September 25, Jill Settle and I rode with Amey Warder to Tricounty Family Ministries in North Charleston to take a wonderful tour with the executive director, Sue Hanshaw. They are doing such great work there by giving hope to people in crisis.
I have known about Tricounty Family Ministries for years, but I didn’t realize all the services they offered for people! Besides the meals that St. Philippian volunteers often help with by preparing or serving food, I learned about the food pantry, Healing Hands health clinic, the clothes closet, job placement, and legal and social services. I love the Pass the Purse ministry, where you can fill a purse (new or slightly used) with feminine hygiene products, toiletries, hair elastics, or any other little things you think a woman might need or want in her purse. What a great project to do with your kids that gives others hope while showing the younger generation that others may not have access to the little things we always have, like toothpaste and soap.

The Red Cross Bloodmobile is Coming to St. Philip’s!
In Partnership With Tricounty Family Ministries
Wednesday, October 9, 2:00–7:00 p.m.
|
|
On Wednesday, October 9, drink your water, eat a good breakfast and a nice, big lunch, and come on down to St. Philip’s to give the gift of life––one unit of blood can save up to three lives! Our goal is 24 donors, which would mean 72 lives saved––WOW!
Please consider making an appointment today to be one of those 24 donors. An appointment guarantees your spot and therefore
minimizes or eliminates any wait time.
All donors will receive a free pass to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. Learn more and schedule your appointment below. Walk-ins are also most welcome!

Youth Group: Need We Say More?
|
|
If you have children in middle school or high school who have not yet checked out St. Philip’s youth group, they are missing out big time. But it’s never too late to join the fun!
Drop your middle-schooler off at the Parish House Fridays at 6:00 p.m., and drop your high-schooler off Sundays at 6:00 p.m. Both groups enjoy dinner, a teaching, and games (the middle-schoolers tend to work up a sweat––bring a water bottle!). Youth group, like all of St. Philip’s offerings, is open to the community, so bring a friend!

Representing St. Philip’s at the New Wineskins Conference

The Most Rev. Dr. Foley Beach (left), Archbishop of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), and the Rev. Lawrence McElrath of the Provincial Office of ACNA listen to the Most Rev. Several St. Philippians joined other members of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina and people from all around the world at the New Wineskins 2019 Global Missions Conference at the Ridgecrest Conference Center just outside of Asheville, NC, September 26-29. The theme of the weekend was “Better Together,” and it was a time for renewal, worship, and prayer as well as an opportunity for those working to spread the Gospel to share strategies for advancing God’s kingdom across the globe.
“The conference was a God-filled time of seeing the amazing ways the Lord is at work in his world, reaching out in saving love to those who don’t know him from all parts of the globe, and of meeting the very ordinary and extraordinary people through whom He is doing this work.” said Tammy Gottshalk, a member of St. Philip’s World Missions Committee who attended with her husband, Guv. “It was a glorious time of worship together with people and tongues from over 50 of the earth’s 192 nations! A little taste of what heaven will surely be like as we all praised God together. So very powerful!”

Tonight's supper: Creamed Chicken over Rice
Next week: Lasagna
|
|
TONIGHT at 7:00 after worship and supper!
|
|
Come join us in the Parlor of the Ministries Hall (corner of Church and Queen Streets) for a weekly excursion into one of C.S. Lewis’s most interesting and accessible books,
The Screwtape Letters, led by the Rev. Brian McGreevy. A fictional correspondence between a senior devil and a junior devil about how to tempt Christians away from their faith, this book also serves as an engaging and challenging primer on what it means to follow Jesus in a hostile culture. All are welcome!

Collect for the Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost, Proper 22:
Almighty and everlasting God, who art always more ready to hear than we to pray, and art wont to give more than either we desire or deserve: Pour down upon us the abundance of thy mercy, forgiving us those things whereof our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask, but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
