Parishioner Recommendation:
Spiritual Gifts Workshop
Doug Ringer participated in the inaugural Spiritual Gifts workshop in January 2019.
I commend the Spiritual Gifts workshop to anyone interested in the gifts that God, through the Holy Spirit, provides us and finding out which of them may be more prevalent in our individual lives. The day-and-a-half workshop was enjoyable, informative, and enriching, and it was very worthwhile on several levels. First, the attendees were introduced to the spiritual gifts––where they come from, what they are, and who gets them; second, we learned how the various gifts can be and are used in today’s world; third, we had the joy of seeing some of our church leaders in action, using their obvious gifts of teaching with knowledge and humor ... so that the time passed by rapidly. I don’t believe anyone thought, “Oh, my watch is slow!” Lastly, because we broke into small groups to discuss certain items, we had the opportunity to get to know others in the church whom we might not have known before. It’s always a very good thing to interact with people of like interests and perhaps get beyond the surface level of conversation. The end result of the workshop is hopefully to reveal to the participant the various spiritual gifts he or she has and, through a follow-up coaching session with one of the leaders, how those gifts may be used both in our church and in daily life.
The next workshop is just around the corner!
Fri., Oct. 4 (7-9 p.m.)-Sat., Oct. 5 (9 a.m.-3 p.m.)

Y.I.A.: Youth in Action
by David Gilbert, Youth Minister
On September 14 and September 15 the youth group of St. Philip’s went to work.
We love to do service projects around the greater Charleston area, but sometimes your home needs some love, too! On Saturday, September 14, right before the big Rally Sunday kick-off, our youth gathered to sweep the Parish Hall entrance and the portico of the church, move old bricks that had been piling up on the side of the chapel, and clean up large yard debris left over from the hurricane. On Rally Sunday, they congregated behind the counter and served sweet tea to the massive amount of parishioners who gathered for the fellowship lunch. Hundreds of cups of sweet tea, unsweet tea, and water flew off the counter and into the hands of the faithful! Our youth group laughed, loved, and shared in the joy of serving the Body of Christ! As Mother Teresa said, there are plenty of people who want to do big things, but very few who want to do the little unnoticed things. Let’s do the little things with big passion!

“Trusting God:
A Leap of Faith in the World of Business”
First Wednesday Men’s Lunch
with the Rev. Brian K. McGreevy
Wednesday, October 2, at 12 noon in the Parish Hall
Before the Rev. Brian McGreevy was ministering to the people of Charleston and acting as St. Philip’s resident C.S. Lewis scholar, he owned a bed and breakfast with his wife, Jane. Before that, he had spent some fifteen years in law and international management consulting, rising through the ranks to become Managing Director of LOMA, an Atlanta-based trade association of more than 1,200 insurance and financial services companies in 80 countries. Find out how God intervened in his life in the midst of major career success to call him to a deeper faith in following Him as he and Jane and their family left that life and started their own business in Charleston.

TONIGHT at 7:00 after worship and supper!
Come join us in the Parlor of the Ministries Hall (corner of Church and Queen Streets) for a weekly excursion into one of C.S. Lewis’s most interesting and accessible books,
The Screwtape Letters, led by the Rev. Brian McGreevy. All are welcome!
