What Are Your Gifts for Ministry?
Two-part Spiritual Gifts Workshop: Friday, March 6, 7:00-9:00 p.m., and
Saturday, March 7, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. in the Parlor
|
|
Did you know that all of us––introverts and extroverts, artists and scientists, college students and senior citizens––whether we’re married or single, working or retired,
all of us were given gifts for ministry?
Many of your fellow St. Philippians have already discovered their gifts for ministry, and now it’s your turn! What will you find out about yourself and how you can reach the hearts of others? Do you have a gift for hospitality? Administration or organization? Perhaps God has gifted you with the ability to lead others in the study of the Bible?
This two-day workshop led by Brian McGreevy, Andrew O’Dell, and Frenchie Richards will help you discover just what God has planned for
you.
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10

Men’s Conference: Building God’s Kingdom
by Gregg Lancaster
|
|
Several hundred men from St. Philip’s, churches across the state, and as far away as Kenya attended the Christian Men’s Conference at Camp St. Christopher February 21-23. I was blessed to be among them. The theme of this year’s conference was “The Father’s Blessing,” and the goal was for the weekend to be “a time of blessing for all men, young and old, in order that all men may thus be transformed and more fully equipped to build God’s kingdom, man to man.” Anglican Chaplain to the Corps of Cadets at The Citadel Rob Sturdy, looking like an apostle with his full beard and long, bushy hair, brought a passionate and well-researched message over four sessions. Rob talked about the cultural view of masculinity being precarious: hard to earn and easy to lose versus the biblical view of masculinity being a gift from God. He talked about God being present, proud, and pleased with his son, Jesus, when he was baptized by John and how this blessing is extended to each of us just because we belong to him.

An invitation to Every Church Woman from speaker Penn Hagood:
Please come and hear about the perseverance and powerful witness of Paul, “a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,” who wrote, “Finally ... whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on these things.” His is a message for our own time.

New Offering for Parents of Older or Adult Children
Four Tuesdays beginning March 24 ~ 4:00-5:30 (location on-campus to be determined)
|
|
Rob Rienow is the founder of Visionary Parenting, a ministry designed to be a guide for parents of younger children. At his seminars on Visionary Parenting, Rob kept hearing feedback from parents whose children were grown and out of the house, children who had abandoned their walk with the Lord and were not living in a fashion that displayed any trust in the Lord. In response to these cries for help from parents, Rob developed the Never Too Late program, which consists of four videos followed by prayer and discussion.
The videos develop the idea of restoring and/or developing relationships between parents and children, parents and God, and children and God. Rob’s biblically-based theses develop four steps for participants to take: (1) turn your heart to the Lord; (2) turn your heart to your child; (3) draw your child’s heart to yours; and (4) point your child’s heart to Christ.
As part of this teaching series, we intend to have prayer ministers present at sessions 2, 3, and 4 for individual prayer with the participants about whatever God puts on their hearts after viewing the videos.
A few spots are still available. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Lynn Land Dayton (843-343-1001 or lland312@gmail.com) or Bob Kunes (843-224-5678 or robertkunes0603@comcast.net).

Ministry Opportunity in the Church Office
|
|
Does your heart jump with eager anticipation when you hear a phone ring? Do you long to utter the words, “Please hold while I transfer you”? Are you curious about what St. Philip’s is like during the week? Consider volunteering for a one-hour shift at the front desk! Front desk volunteers answer the phone, greet people who come to meet with clergy or staff with a warm St. Philip’s welcome, and partake of all the yummy St. Philip’s coffee they could ever want. And there are usually plenty of goodies left over from Bible studies or Wednesday night dinners to munch on. If you’d like to give it a go, please call Felicia Lescow at (843) 722-7734, or email her at

Dearest One
by Gloria Avent
|
|
Dearest One, there is no knowing love’s true joy unless below
all our waves, the pain of losing, deeply buried, marks the flow
of a river’s silent presence: there the dreams we’ve left behind.
Memories of unknown grieving, seek the daylight of our minds.
Who perceives this river’s flowing underneath all conscious thought,
who can hold its many droplets, tears of longing come to nought.
Who can break the awful silence, bring our grief into the light?
Who can bear th’ approaching daylight of true joy through darkest night?
Who will douse our drought with oceans, who will end the loss we know?
Who can slake our thirsting living with a true life giving flow?
Let His river flow unhindered; open gates to flood the fields.
End the drought with waves of healing, broken dreams their harvest yield.
Clear as crystal comes the enlightening when surrender is our friend;
all our thoughts upon that altar nevermore our case defend.
There the light comes on within us, there we see, with eyes now clear.
There, alone, is One All Perfect, taking guilt, removing fear.
Joy is whetted by this choosing of forgiveness freely giv’n,
Now a peace is pouring o’er us, now we know the joy of heav’n,
We, no longer isolated by the heaviness of shame,
find our welcome in the promise of a new and glorious name:
the Beloved of the Savior;
in His grip our safety sure. In the arms of love He wields us
through the river of life so pure.

Click the link below to support Water Mission, one of St. Philip’s World Mission partners, by registering to walk with our clergy and other parishioners or by making a donation.
From watermission.org:
Inspired by the burden that millions of women and children bear every day walking an average of 3.5 miles to collect water that’s not safe, Water Mission’s “Walk for Water” raises awareness of the global water crisis and funds that save lives. On March 21, thousands will rally together in Charleston to give hope to those who lack access to safe water. It’s more than a Walk. It’s an event that will impact people around the world forever by providing solutions that save lives. Join Water Mission as we Walk so others won’t have to.
