NIOT eNews - The Stand We're Taking Together to Stop Hate

2020 IS THE YEAR
WE TAKE A
STAND AGAINST HATE

In a word, how would you describe 2020?

We have witnessed this year how words have been used to divide, to cause great harm, to instill fear, and to isolate. Here at Not In Our Town we have been heartened by the scores of people who have reached out to us to quell the hate, the fear, and the hurt. In each of those triumphs, we think of you, our partners, whose support allows us to meet the evolving needs of communities as they seek guidance, resources, and tools to strengthen and transform their towns.

Because of your support, Not In Our Town is a trusted partner for people who are standing up to hate. NIOT has distributed more than 20,000 action kits and resource guides to online activists and civic leaders. Following the murder of George Floyd, NIOT covered the protests that spread across the country and presented lessons for educators to help students better understand systemic racism and foster conversations on reimagining public safety. In August, NIOT convened a virtual conversation with family members who have lost loved ones to hate violence. Throughout the pandemic, NIOT has responded to escalating anti-Asian attacks with alerts, action steps, and training for NIOT groups.

As anti-Semitism continues to rise, NIOT is working to complete our latest film, Stories from the Tree of Life, which profiles the courageous stand of people in Pittsburgh in the aftermath of the October 2018 shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue.

We want to share what 2020 has meant for us when we think of you, our partners: Gratitude

You inspire us to continue advancing NIOT’s mission to make our towns safe for everyone. We need you now more than ever as we stand united against hate. Your generous donations will help us as we continue to respond to and reach communities who are ready to take on the challenge of hate and build toward a more inclusive future.

We can stop hate, together.

Stay Healthy and Safe,

—Patrice O'Neill, Founder of NIOT
