Rating Supports for Providers
Last week, the Michigan Department of Education-Office of Great Start announced several Star rating supports to address feedback received from child care providers across the state. This is exciting news for any provider currently participating in Great Start to Quality and any that begin to participate in the coming months. To learn more about the supports available, visit our website.
Using the MiRegistry Career Level Pathway
MiRegistry members are awarded a Career Level Pathway based on the education and training that is verified in the MiRegistry system. The Career Pathway serves as a model to continue your journey as a lifelong learner.

The Career Pathway also lists possible career opportunities. The positions listed are based on preliminary educational qualifications and relate to each level of the Career Level Pathway. Download the Career Level Pathway.
Change in the Way Rating Periods are Displayed in STARS
To clarify when a program’s Great Star to Quality Star rating ends, a change has been made to the STARS platform. When you look at the program’s rating period and expiration date on STARS, you will notice the changes that we’ve made.

Your program’s rating dates will now be shown as “Rating Valid Through” dates. See the example where the Star rating is effective through and including the date shown. It will be expired on 5/7/2021. This is important because you must submit the Self-Assessment Survey (SAS) on or before the Rating Valid Through date in order to maintain a current rating.

Another change you will see in STARS is that in Case Details, the “Expired On” date is noted in red. In the example below, the program’s rating was valid from 12/24/18 until 12/23/20. On 12/24/20, the rating expired.
If you have any questions about your Star rating, please reach out to your local Resource Center.
Quality Improvement Plan Indicator (OS-1)
In the last few weeks, we have received questions about Quality Improvement Plans and Action Items. It is important to remember that in order for credit to be earned for a Quality Improvement Plan (OS-1), the plan must be in progress. Action Items that have been completed or archived will not earn credit for the QIP indicator (OS-1). The Action Item must also be monitored by a QIC or someone with a Master's Degree.
Program Quality Indicator Guidance Documents
All Program Quality Indicator Guidance Documents have been updated on the website after an error in the subtext of the PD-1 Indicator was found. As a reminder, Indicator Guidance Documents can be found on the Self-Assessment Survey page under 'Getting Started' on the Great Start to Quality website. Included here are also guidance documents that have been translated in Arabic and Spanish.
Full Hour Training Needed for MiRegistry Approval
MiRegistry courses entered into the system must be at least one hour in length to be approved. One-hour courses should only have one core competency area selected, and should not be shorter than one hour per core competency. A core competency can be entered as less than an hour for courses that are more than one hour. For example, a course that is 1.5 hours can have one primary core competency of 1 hour and a secondary core competency of .5 hours. If you have questions about training requirements visit www.miregistry.org or email support@miregistry.org
