Message from the President
Webster’s Dictionary defines leadership as:
  • An office or position of a leader
  • The capacity to lead
  • The act or instance of leading

One of my favorite programs here at the Delaware State Chamber is our Chamber Leadership breakfasts. These events highlight the journey our featured speaker has experienced and the lessons he or she learned along the way. At each of these I found an interesting quote, a key insight or relatable event that made me think differently about how I approach my work.

An Early October Treat
from the DSCC!

We have a real treat in store for you on October 9 th . Please join us for our Chamber Leadership speaker, the Hon. Judge Louis J. Freeh .

This distinguished leader has a story you will want to hear. Mr. Freeh held positions as the chief of the Organized Crime Unit in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of NY, Deputy U.S. Attorney, former Federal Judge and a former FBI Director. His FBI career spans such interesting cases as Waco, Khobar Towers Bombing, TWA Flight 800 and the Unabomber. His post FBI career is just as intriguing. You will not want to miss his story. It is a great way to start your morning!

Research-Based Goals and Technology

People are looking at their wrists a lot more lately, and they are not just checking the time. Sixteen percent of American adults now own a smart watch, and sales increased 61% in the past year. The number of smartwatches sold is expected to double by the year 2022. Coveted features of these devices include heart rate monitoring, sedentary time tracking, step recording, and activity tracking. However, how many of the users know why trying to reach certain goals on their device is healthy? In a survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, only 36 percent of Americans knew the recommended guidelines for physical activity, and nearly 80 percent of them fall short.
