"The Automobile is the Art"
The Pure Blue….Pure Porsche!

"In the beginning I looked around but couldn't find the car I dreamt of, so I decided to build it myself."

                                                                     Dr. Ferdinand Porsche
What Ferdinand Porsche dreamt, he built….What Rod Gustafson dreamt, he chased. From the instant the ultra-rare 2011 Porsche Speedster debuted at the prestigious Paris Auto Show in 2010, Porsche purists from all over the world were like a cheetah chasing chow in pursuit of an instant legend. The Speedster was so much more than a Porsche. Picture the finesse of Fred Astaire with the force of a freight train and you have the X-ray of a 2011 Porsche 997 Speedster. From its spectacular speed to its low-slung sexy stance, the technology-filled Speedster was the complete package. Only 356 were constructed in honor of the original Porsches 356s Dr. Porsche built back in 1948 - 1955. Of those 356 only 100 ever made it to U.S. shores. You will have an opportunity to see perhaps the lowest mileage Speedster in the world September 30th at AUTOberfest!
Catching a 190 mph sportscar is as difficult as it sounds, catching a 2011 Porsche Speedster took far more……patience, planning and, most of all, perseverance. Fortunately, this wasn’t Rod Gustafson’s first rodeo nor was it his first Speedster. His impressive collection already included a 1957 356 Speedster Super, a 1994 964 Speedster, and a 2019 991 Heritage Speedster GT (number 890 of just 1948 produced) when a decade long search led him to the most unlikely location in the summer of 2023…..an unmarked warehouse whose contents included a 2011 Porsche 997 Speedster that had been tucked away in that warehouse for 11 years. Not even a decade of dust could cover up the fact that this Speedster was truly special. 178 original miles on the odometer account for what is perhaps the lowest mileage 2011 Speedster in the world.
Dr. Ferdinand Porsche was a genius at turning pragmatism into prestige and the company that bears his name has continued that tradition for 75 years electing to leave the flash to Ferrari. That comes as no surprise given that Dr. Porsche was the creator of the VW Beetle, the epitome of pragmatic. In fact, it isn’t difficult to see the similarities in the first 4 Porsche 356s that were built in a converted sawmill in Gmund, Austria beginning June 8th, 1948. That’s where the similarities end. If you can even get your hands on one of those first 4, you’ll need a bank roll of $3m or more.

From the very first day in that old sawmill in Austria to the introduction of the original Porsche Speedster in 1953…..and now Porsches that can command millions, honoring history has been the hallmark of Porsche’s success. Rod Gustafson’s 2011 Porsche 997 Speedster contributed to that history August 27th when he was awarded a highly coveted Karl Benz trophy for Best of Show at the esteemed Geneva Concours d’ Elegance. Trust me when I say you’ll be the winner when you see this rare gem in person at AUTOberfest. It’s Pure Blue….Pure Porsche….Pure Perfection!
