FUNNYMAN
MUSICIAN STEVE MORIS TO APPEAR IN CONCERT FRIDAY NOVEMBER
26th AT THE DIAMOND JO CASINO IN DUBUQUE
Steve
Moris brings over 30 years of Music and Comedy back home to Dubuque
Iowa for a one-night-only promise of music, hilarity, and
memories!
Steve
Moris, a long-time resident of Galena and Hanover Illinois takes
the stage Friday November 26th at the Diamond Jo Casino
to celebrate his first return show to the Dubuque area in eleven
years. The following are Steve's thoughts on
returning...
I've
got butterflies over this thing; I'm very excited and thankful to
the folks at the Diamond Jo who have allowed me to headline my show
this month, and it's a perfect night too; the night after
Thanksgiving, a Friday, when lots of people are back home on a
holiday weekend maybe looking for an excuse to "laugh off" a few
calories (which is exactly what I should do)...
It's
funny, I was looking at my laptop recently and I counted 1438 shows
performed since May 2003 with Princess, Celebrity, and Disney
Cruise Lines. I don't mean for that to sound presumptuous, my point
is that in all those shows I can't recall a single one that had me
more excited or nervous than this upcoming show. Also, I was 500
pounds lighter the last time I did a show in the area, but I blame
the whole thing on cruise ship buffets and broken
treadmills...
Princess
Cruises flew me nearly a million miles out of the Dubuque Regional
Airport so of course I became Executive Platinum on American
Airlines pretty quick. The American Eagle folks and the TSA people
in Dubuque became fast friends, always asking where I was going
next and when will I perform in Dubuque so they can come see me.
Now they are coming to the Diamond Jo as a gang and I hope I don't
let them down! What's even more interesting is my wife Kathy, my
son Stevie, and I gave a young student a ride to Clarke College
from there this past August, he was from California and it was his
first time away from home, and the story became front page news in
the Dubuque Telegraph Herald who called us "Good Samaritans"! Only
in the wonderful Midwest! You can find that story by going
to http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?o=1&id=294641
Add
to that a couple of decades prior to the ships playing every winter
ski season at Chestnut Mountain Resort, coming to the show are my
in-laws from Hanover (my wife Kathy Gable is from Hanover where we
still maintain a home), plus all the old mates at Chestnut whom I
laughed with, cried with, drank with, got sober with...
Life
has been exciting for me doing comedy and music; I became part of
The Beach Boys family over the past 25 years which really helped me
hone my show for large audiences, comedy great Louie Anderson and I
became best of friends and now I will be doing my permanent show
after him in his very own theater at the Place Station in Las Vegas
beginning April 1st.
There's
not much more to say except I promise anyone who goes out of their
way to buy a ticket to see me in Dubuque will get their money's
worth. I'm not holding back anything. Anyone who knows me knows my
show is very clean so no worries there. This isn't just a show,
it's a reunion, and I'm looking forward to hanging out afterward as
well!
Oh,
Kathy said I should mention The September 2007 issue of Reader's
Digest was on "Humor", they ranked me among the "Top 50 Funniest
Things Ever Said" , I was in some pretty big company on that one.
Nobody actually read that issue because I bought all the
copies...
One
last thing, before I start my resident show in Vegas we are moving
back to Hanover this month from San Diego. I share this because
it's vital that I do a good show on the 26th because
I'll have to face my in-laws in Hanover until April.
Tickets
are available online at www.diamondjo.com. Show begins at 8pm with
Chicago comic legend Bert Borth opening. Mike Kenneally (Steve's
partner on WLLR FM in 1989) will host. Mitch Evans and Mike Pickney
(of Bowman, Pickney, and Evans) will make a musical appearance as
well.
