Introducing Our New FLTAs

We have three Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTAs) joining us this academic year! Neriman and Órla will be living in the Green Home and Fabiola is staying in Clemmons. Please consider inviting them to your classes (Davie Campus, Davidson Campus, virtual) for a mini-lecture, activity, or just to say hello. They have lots to offer us!

Additionally, our FLTAs want to experience North Carolina culture. Feel free to invite them to dinner, museums, hiking, kayaking, thrifting, or anything else that will immerse them in our culture.

Fabiola Contreras

Fabiola Contreras is from Guadalara, Jalisco in Mexico.

Professional Development for Faculty & Staff

Two people at a desk talking

By Amy Holmes

Teaching, Learning, Innovation, & Global Engagement (TLIG) wants to make it easier to attend professional development opportunities this academic year by providing our events on one calendar (Google Doc). The calendar is a living document and is best viewed electronically.

Additionally, check out the Piedmont Hub Connect (Google Doc), a newsletter created by the Piedmont Teaching & Learning Hub.

Please note that "Passport Events" are now called "Cultural Events" and are listed on the TLIG calendar. Students will continue using the Cultural Events calendar (Google Doc).

New Moodle Features

By Gretchen Benton

Moodle version 4.3 is now available on our site. Updates will be posted to the Faculty Introduction to Moodle course. Faculty can enroll in this course using the link and password located in the Faculty Toolbox section of the Academics Intranet page. All new/updated tutorials will be posted to our Educational Technology guides on Freshdesk.

Some bigger updates that may interest you include

  • New Bulk Editing tools - no more deleting/moving items inside your course one at a time!
  • Onetopic - A new course format that allows you to organize your course in tabs.
  • Multiple Gradebook improvements, however there is a known issue with the grader report links at the top of each column (that used to navigate directly to graded activities) not working.
  • "External Tool" is no longer an option - all activities, resources, LTIs and Plugins are now found on the same page in the "All" list when clicking "Add an Activity or Resources". Many vendors will still have the old information about selecting "External tool" in their instructor guides.
