The Story of Lamonte Lockhart
As told by his mother, Jackie.
Lamonte Lockhart was the baby of the family with two older sisters and an older brother. He enjoyed writing, singing, and rapping music. He was a very loving person. Lamonte occasionally worked with his father doing landscaping work and was in the process of getting a job with the US Postal Service when he became a donor.

“The night he died, (Lions Eye Institute) told us that he was a donor. I know that it was his maturity that made him think of others. I wasn’t even an organ donor at that time. Now, we let others know the importance of being a registered donor.” – Jackie Lockhart, Lamonte’s Mom

This past Thanksgiving was very difficult for Lamonte’s family without him there. He loved to cook; his mother says he would have been very busy making sure that she stayed on top of it all. The Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Jackie’s husband told her that they had received a letter from Lions Eye Institute. When she opened it, she saw her donor family pin and card inside, she began to cry.

“It was like holding my son. That moment allowed me to get up and be thankful for his decision… Somebody is able to see, it’s like Lamonte is living forever and being a blessing to others. Losing a loved one is difficult and heartbreaking. Knowing that he was an organ donor helped us with our grieving.” – Jackie Lockhart
