The Story of Mart
As told by his daughter, Chambré.
Mart was a loving husband and father. He loved smooth jazz and R&B music and he even played baritone in a band. Mart also enjoyed playing football; he was a die-hard Florida State Seminoles fan and he played in both high school and college. Mart was the life of the party. He also liked to fish and entertain his family and friends during gatherings at their home. He simply enjoyed having fun.

“He was really funny. The kind of person who would light up the room. He would take the saddest moments and change them with his contagious laugh.” – Chambré, Mart’s daughter
According to Chambré, her dad had one of the biggest hearts of anyone she knew. Mart taught her to play the keyboard when she was just six years old – they were inseparable. Mart was married for 30 years and his daughter feels like this gave her a good foundation of what love was – Mart loved them both unconditionally.

Chambré believes that her father would want people to know that he served his purpose here on earth: to raise her. His family was everything to him – he cherished them.

When someone did something good, Mart would tell them, “You are the greatest.” Chambré carries that message with her every day.

An update from Lions Eye Institute: In 2019, Mart's corneas restored sight to two young men in Kenya, one of which traveled from Sudan to receive his transplant. Both patients are doing well and Chambré was able to receive photos of the recipients, filling her with gratitude and pride for her father. Mart's gift will make a difference in their lives for many years to come.
