As spring's busy season transitions into summer, life seems to move even faster with graduations, celebrations and school-year milestones. I've been caught up in these special moments as well, including the graduation of my nephew and godson, Ryan. Congratulations, Ryan!
One message from the commencement ceremony stood out to me. The president of the school board, superintendent and principal all shared a common theme: "Real connection occurs when you are vulnerable."
In a world dominated by technology, instant communication, social media and nonstop activity, it was a powerful reminder. While the message was directed at the Class of 2026 — a generation that has grown up with apps, texting and social platforms — it resonated just as strongly with the family members and loved ones gathered to celebrate them.
Take time to make the phone call. Make time for the in-person visit. Be present. Be authentically human. Connect.
That message aligns perfectly with our June feature, "The Strategic Power of Stepping Back." In a culture that constantly rewards motion and productivity, we often overlook the value of pausing. Yet stepping back doesn't diminish your value. Your expertise, wisdom, credibility and relationships remain.
This summer, give yourself permission to pause. Whether it's lunch with a friend, a weekend getaway or simply an afternoon with family, invest time in the people who matter most. The connections we nurture are often our greatest source of strength, perspective and joy.
