The Risks of Drinking Alcohol in Hot Weather

Alcohol and Dehydration: A Risky Mix in the Heat

Alcohol may feel refreshing in the moment, but it gives a false sense of hydration. Just because it’s a liquid doesn’t mean it hydrates you. In reality, alcohol works against your body’s efforts to stay cool and balanced in the heat.

Hot summer days cause fluid loss through sweating. Alcohol increases fluid loss through urination. Together, they can quickly lead to dehydration or even heat stroke.

The best choice? Stick with water to stay cool, safe, and hydrated.
