Prepare now: Ventura's annual Fire Hazard Reduction Program returns

The Ventura Fire Department urges property owners to take proactive steps in wildfire prevention through the annual Fire Hazard Reduction Program (FHRP).


With over 6,200 properties in high-risk areas receiving compliance notices this week, maintaining defensible space is crucial for reducing wildfire danger. Inspections begin June 1, so don’t wait!

April 9: Join VPD for Coffee with a Cop supporting Autism Acceptance

The Ventura Police Department is teaming up with the Autism Society Ventura County for a special Coffee with a Cop event.


When: Wednesday, April 9, from 8:00 - 9:30 a.m.

Where: Café Ficelle, located at 2126 E. Main St in midtown Ventura


In honor of National Autism Acceptance Month, officers are selling limited-edition t-shirts and stickers throughout April, with all proceeds benefiting local autism programs. Stop by for coffee, conversation, and a chance to support a great cause!

April 19: Earth Day Festival is back in downtown!

Join us for the Ventura Earth Day Festival at Plaza Park!


When: Saturday, April 19, from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Where: 651 E Thompson Boulevard


The theme for 2025 is "Healthy Planet, Healthy People!" Come celebrate with over 30 eco-friendly organizations, vendors, and activities. Hosted by the MERITO Foundation in partnership with the City of Ventura's Sustainability Division.

Special Event Grant Program accepting applications

We're now accepting applications for the Special Event Grant Program (SEGP), designed to support community events for residents by offsetting the City’s required special event permitting fees. Please note the following key deadline dates: 

  • Thursday, May 1, 2025, by 1:00 p.m.: Deadline to request a secure link to the grant portal. 
  • Monday, May 5, 2025, by 5:00 p.m.: Deadline to submit completed applications.

Become disaster-ready with free CERT training!

We're bringing back our free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, with applications open through May 7 and classes beginning May 21.


This hands-on program equips 40 residents with essential disaster response skills, including fire safety, medical triage, and light search and rescue. Don't miss this opportunity to strengthen your preparedness and community resilience.
