• Summer Solstice
"Hye Woh Hye," ‘that which does not burn, imperishable enduring,’ is one of the Adinkra symbols created by the Akan people of Ghana. The symbols are used to help convey complex concepts. The sun is an ancient symbol in the psyche of humanity. It represents reliability, strength, stamina, longevity, awakening, revelation. “Hye Woh Hye” seems like a good description for the Sun.
Our Sun is estimated to have formed 4.6 billion years ago. It has not changed dramatically in that time and probably won’t for another 5 billion years when the Sun is predicted to become a red giant, experiencing a marked increase in density and temperature while its outer layers expand. June 21
st is the longest day of the year for the Northern Hemisphere. The start of the summer season. I wanted to make the Adinkra symbol into a graphical representation of the Sun without making major changes to the original symbol.
