St. Austin Catholic Parish & School

The Season of Summer is Upon Us!

Summertime means coming and goings. Fr. Paolo is away this week at a workshop on church administration for priests, which is being held in Milwaukee. The president of the Paulists asked him to attend, meaning that there is a pastorate in Fr. Paolo’s future.

I am very happy to have my ordination classmate, Fr. Dick Sparks, CSP here for the week to help fill in. Paulist Seminarian Mr. Dan Macalinao will be passing through this weekend on his way to a month-long intensive Spanish course in San Antonio. He will then join us at St. Austin for the month of July. And Fr. Dave Dwyer, who will be on this weekend (June 3-4) at Horseshoe Bay, will hopefully be here to celebrate the 5:30 p.m. 11Mass on June 4. So lots of Paulist comings and goings.

We also have been “celebrating” a lot of funerals in our parish. We celebrate the mercy of God and our faith and hope in the fullness of life for every one of our loved ones. And if you have extra time during the Summer and want to exercise your artistic sensibilities, I recommend to you a film on Youtube. One of my Paulist Brothers (Frank Sabatte) who is an artist, and works with young artists in New York City, recently

informed the Paulists about a short film (20 minutes) produced by The Fordham Center on Religion and Culture on The Catholic Imagination. I found it rather interesting. It opens with an interview of Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York and explores the subject of “Catholic imagination” with several artists. It is worth a watch. You can see it below!

Let me know what you think of it.

Happy Summer!

God bless!

On June 10, Bishop Vásquez invites you to join him in a Diocesan Holy Hour for vocations. Together, we will ask the Master of the Harvest to send out more laborers to serve as priests in the Diocese of Austin so that a year without a priestly ordination will never happen again. The day will include a spiritual conference, a Eucharistic holy hour, and a reception to thank God for the priestly vocations that we do have - especially those priests who are celebrating jubilee anniversaries.

Fr Bruce Nieli is one of those priests! He is celebrating 50 years of priesthood. He’d love to have you join him at the Holy Hour. It will take place on June 10 at St. Louis in Austin at 10:00 am. You can find more information at www.austinvocations.com.

Hope to see you there!

Holy Hour for Vocations

As Catholics, we believe that vocations to the priesthood and religious life are essential for the Church's growth and mission. To discern one's vocation, it is important to listen to God's voice and seek guidance from the Holy Spirit. This is why the Diocese of [Name] is organizing a Holy Hour for Vocations on Saturday, June 10th.
