RETIREMENT COACHING
for RECENTLY RETIRED
and RETIRING PASTORS

Moving through a life transition like retirement is a significant challenge. To do it well requires attention and intention. What will this new chapter of your life bring? And if you are already retired, what challenges and opportunities is this chapter bringing?

Retirement from an active, called ministry is one of the most significant challenges - and opportunities - any pastor faces.

After decades of service to God through the Church, what sort of new adventures will you embark upon? What have you been putting off until retirement? Is the old saying true ~ that retirement is all about doing what you're passionate about? How is the pandemic reshaping your retirement?

This fall the Synod of Lincoln Trails is offering a first-of-its-kind opportunity for up to fifty pastors, from the eight presbyteries of SOLT, who have recently crossed the threshold of retirement or are about to.

There are two parts to this pilot project:

October 12, 2020: A 2-hour ZOOM workshop, presented by Dr. Laurie Ferguson and hosted by the Rev. Sara Dingman, will be offered to help you understand and experience the benefits that coaching can offer during life transitions - especially retirement.

During this virtual workshop you will connect with new colleagues, and learn what coaching is and isn’t. You will learn why and how coaching can offer you unique and life-giving challenge, support, growth and accountability as you navigate one of life's greatest changes: retirement.

October 13, 2020: Having been pre-assigned to a small group of 4-5 pastors (based on your recent or upcoming retirement date), your small group will have your first of a total of five small group coaching sessions with your International Coach Federation-certified coach. The time and date of these sessions will be set by your small group and coach, and spaced out over the next 3-4 months.

The purpose of these group coaching sessions is to help you think about and put into action the steps needed to navigate retirement well... Each of the five sessions will have a particular content focus, and your group will explore the topic, as well as support and challenge each other as plans are made and steps are taken.

The content topics are:
  • Your Identity in Retirement (2 sessions)
  • Big Dreams - New Time - What Will You Create?
  • Tending to Your Physical and Spiritual Health
  • To Be Determined by Your Small Group
