Dear T'chiyah Members and Friends--
FROM ANDY LEVIN . . . I'm excited to let you know about Project Micah, a new social justice initiative in Detroit, and a special event to launch the effort. I'm very proud that my synagogue, Congregation T'chiyah, has developed Project Micah out of our shared commitment to the equality of all people and the fight for justice in Detroit. And I'm humbled that my sisters and brothers at T'chiyah have decided to kick off Project Micah with a benefit dinner on Sunday, October 6 honoring the social justice struggles I've joined over the past three decades. The evening is titled "Honoring Andy Levin: A Life Pursuing Social Justice," but its real purpose is to raise funds for Project Micah. I hope very much that you will join us at this inspiring, joyful event-and if you can't be with us in person, that you will contribute as generously as possible to get Project Micah off to a strong start. Project Micah is a new endeavor to fuel interfaith social action organizing in southeast Michigan. In collaboration with the Harriet Tubman Center, Congregation T'chiyah is creating the new position of Rabbi -Organizer to mobilize members of the Jewish community to work shoulder to shoulder with people of all faiths to make sure the next Detroit is a place where justice reigns and there is opportunity for all. Project Micah is really something new. While a number of synagogues in other cities have participated in community organizing as member congregations, this may be the first time that a congregation has shared its rabbi with a community organization on the staff level to create sustained Jewish engagement in social justice organizing, not just in our congregation, but across the community. Please join me today by making a contribution-at whatever level you can-to Project Micah. We have already raised over 35,000 dollars toward the initial project cost of 150,000 dollars -a goal we will achieve through contributions from hundreds of people. It would be wonderful if you can join me on October 6th. I'm especially touched that my dad, Congressman Sandy Levin, and my uncle, Senator Carl Levin, will be with us to speak on social justice - and hopefully not roast me too badly! Click here to reserve your tickets for the dinner or to donate at any level in support of Project Micah. Our website provides more details about Project Micah, our plans for October 6th, and Congregation T'chiyah. Or email me directly at asl@andylevin.org to learn more about how you can join me in organizing for social justice in Detroit. Warm regards-- Andy P.S. I know that you receive many appeals to your generosity, and I hope that you'll agree with me that this unique mission deserves your consideration. With your help, we can strengthen both Detroit social action and the Jewish legacy that have helped to build our region's movement for justice.

SHABBAT D'VAR TORAH
Consequences
When it comes to parenting, I confess to being a slow learner. I should know by know that my almost-seven year old does not respond well, in general, to declarations of causality. Despite this general self-awareness, whether due to stubbornness on my part or just plain fatigue, I still find them tumbling out of my mouth.
