LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® and Neurodiversity

Meet Sandrine Guerlus from France. She is a consultant in neuroagility, a speaker since 2021, and a certified LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitator since March 2025. She is involved in designing conferences, writing and philosophy workshops, and forum theatre performance around neurodiversity and equal opportunities. Sandrine is personally concerned by autism spectrum disorder, diagnosed at the age of 40 following a burnout. She is also the mother of two neuro-atypical children. Read her story about her aspirations with the LEGO SERIOUS PLAY method.

From Inclusion to Acceptance

"I no longer speak of inclusion — I speak of acceptance. Inclusion too often means ticking a box. Acceptance, on the other hand, questions the established norms at their root. As an autistic woman diagnosed in adulthood and a mother of two neurodivergent daughters, I know what it means to not fit in the boxes. But I also know that everyone has their own specific needs. Wearing glasses is now seen as commonplace — yet without them, many would be considered disabled. What we call “disability” is often just a mismatch between personal resources and an unsuitable environment. Cognitive diversity is not a problem to solve, but a strength to be activated. Acceptance is not giving up on high standards — it’s changing the rules so that everyone can fully and sustainably participate.

Why LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is Ideal for Neurodiversity

LSP aligns perfectly with the principles of cognitive diversity:

  • Respect for cognitive rhythms: clear instructions, predictable structure.
  • Emphasis on visual thinking: express complex ideas without relying solely on language.
  • Equal participation: every model holds equal value.
  • Genuine acceptance: experience comes before speech, fostering shared understanding.

LSP is more than a method — it is a bridge between people.

Three Blind Spots in Organizations Revealed by LSP

  1. Non-inclusive meetings. Often dominated by fast, verbal profiles. LSP reverses this by letting building precede speaking, making listening structural.
  2. Disconnected diagnostics. LSP allows teams to co-create both diagnoses and solutions, transforming classic audits into collaborative, grounded explorations.
  3. One-size-fits-all training. Unlike standard training, LSP personalizes the learning experience, making it active, symbolic, and memorable.

Neuroagility®

I developed the registered concept of neuroagility® — the ability of individuals and teams to adapt fluidly, inclusively, and effectively to different cognitive functioning styles. This approach boosts collective performance by fully embracing cognitive diversity.

To be neuroagile® means:

  • Considering differences in perception, attention, and information processing.
  • Adapting environments to cognitive profiles.
  • Making rules explicit to ensure genuine equity.
  • Turning cognitive constraints into drivers of innovation.

Taking into account my own diagnosis, I for once during the 4 days certification experienced a deep state of “flow” with intense, fluid, and peaceful concentration, something familiar to many autistic individuals. LSP allowed me to organize my thinking through hands-on model building.

The strength of neuroagility® lies in not “selling inclusion” — but in delivering tangible, lasting transformations that benefit all cognitive profiles. The future doesn’t belong to those who adapt the fastest, but to those who know how to build environments that respect how each brain works. To make this happen is my aspiration with LEGO SERIOUS PLAY." https://fr.linkedin.com/in/sandrine-guerlus
