Volume 23 Issue 12

Thank you from the Rotary Club of Maui

John & the Rotary Club of Richmond,

Mahalo for your support of the Maui fire relief fund, The outpouring of care and concern for the Maui fire survivors has been heartwarming.

You will be pleased to know that Maui Rotarians continue to work every day to help the community. Even Rotarians that lost their homes and businesses are helping others. They are truly inspirational.

A committee of Maui Rotarians review funding proposals every week. These proposals are reviewed and vetted to ensure the monies are used in the most important ways. All monies will be used on Maui to help with emergency relief, recovery and long-term community rebuilding.

More than 30 projects have been funded. They range from gas and gift cards to displaced families, to new recovery equipment for the only burn unit hospital in the state, to sponsoring a Health & Wellness Fair, to vocational scholarships for people that lost everything in the fires. To date more than $400,000 has been distributed.

Your generous contributions have been a huge help. Thanks for all you continue to do, it is truly amazing.

Aloha, Mark

Rotary/ReWork Richmond Partnership

Enrolled a New Member in October

October brings a new enrollee to our Rotary sponsored member list now totaling 17. The new member is focused on the career path of health care and will be joining VCU Health for her workforce preparedness.

Organizationally, ReWork Richmond enrolled three new members in October and has four potential candidates in the pipeline.

Our sponsored members continue to make progress; however, some continue to face barriers in their journey. Major barriers encountered range from housing and transportation to childcare. Our financial support and our volunteers provide the key links to transversing these barriers making a major positive impact in their lives.

Deb Lawrence, Executive Director of ReWork Richmond shared a text message from one of the members that has made significant strides in the workforce journey. “I’m just thinking about how it all started with ReWork and thanking the Lord for working through me to help others. I thank everyone in this text for being a part of my journey because it’s not over. The best is yet to come.”
