Jennifer Bradshaw is the Director of the Caring Closet, a 501c3 non-profit that has helped vulnerable children and their families receive free clothing in the Richmond metro area for nearly 12 years. The Caring Closet began in the garage of Sara Fender, the founder and Executive Director, and has grown to include not just clothing, but also comfort and hygiene items, a library, an infant supply closet, as well as other basic needs. A recent move to a larger space on the downtown campus of United Methodist Family Services has afforded the Caring Closet even more growth opportunity. The Caring Closet looks forward to expanding its community partnerships as we work together to fulfill these new projects and further help our neighbors in need.

Toby Vernon serves as Executive Director at Richmond ToolBank where he weaves elements of his training in environmental science, urban planning, and community design into his nonprofit management practice. For nearly 15 years, Toby has helped shape Richmond communities & landscapes through an environment-centered design approach to placemaking and land management.

When he’s not at work evangelizing for ToolBank’s mission, Toby’s usually taking an outdoor adventure, cooking something he’s grown, or learning a new skill that reminds him he definitely doesn’t know it all (right now it’s a slow uptake in the piano, btw).

Jimmy Thomas, Doggie Paddle

Veteran and Rotarian Jimmy Thomas, member of the Rotary Club of Glenville, NY, will address our club on May 23. He recently completed a 4,000-mile journey in an effort to raise awareness for veterans who benefit from service dogs. The first 2000 miles of this trip was made by kayak down the intercoastal waterway, and his round-trip return was by bicycle over winter roads. Along the way, Jimmy spoke to communities about the organization he formed for this purpose called Doggie Paddle. His local CBS interview which aired January 19th when staying with President Paul Neumann can be viewed here.

MAY 30 - NO MEETING

As a reminder, the Rotary Club of Richmond will NOT meet Tuesday, May 30 after the Memorial Day Holiday.
