Give to The Rotary of Richmond Club Maui Fundraiser

The Mission of the Rotary Club of Richmond is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.

The Richmond Rotary Club is partnering with the Rotary Club of Maui and Lahaina to support the victims of the devastating fires.

Geoff McDonald, to whom the club owes a debt of gratitude after his outstanding leadership, fund raising and guidance, along with Marshall Orr and Bob Hicks have all agreed to add funds from their organizations.

Our club members' response to this appeal has been outstanding, once again, unhesitatingly stepping forward to help a community in dire need.

To-date more than $10,000 has been raised from club member contributors.

We welcome donations from our fellow Rotarians and members of the Greater Richmond Community. Together we are stronger.

The Maui funding appeal will draw to a close on Tuesday October 10th.

We encourage your donation via check payable and mailed to:

The new Virginia General Assembly building opens next week

VIRGINIA MERCURY--

The elevators go up and down all 15 levels in a jiffy. There’s light and windows everywhere. The committee rooms can seat hundreds. The upsized cafeteria has ample seating and a pizza oven. And there’s new technology throughout designed to help the people of Virginia see and influence what their elected representatives are doing in Richmond.

The ribbon won’t officially be cut on the new Virginia General Assembly Building until next Wednesday, but the state officials who have overseen the nearly $300 million project for the last six years are proudly preparing to reveal the almost-finished product.

“The Capitol is the jewel. This is a beautiful bauble,” said House Clerk G. Paul Nardo. “We’re trying to make them more seamless.”

Sean Sublette, Chief Meteorologist, Richmond Times-Dispatch

"Weathering the 21st Century"

When Virginians look for their trusted news source, they turn to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. In print and online, we reach more than 515,000 people in the Richmond area every week. Born and raised in Richmond, Sean Sublette became chief meteorologist at the Richmond Times-Dispatch in 2021.

From there, he returned to Virginia to work briefly as a broadcast meteorologist for the next 19 years at the NBC-ABC stations in the Roanoke-Lynchburg area.

Ready for change in the 2010s, he moved to the Northeast and worked for the non-profit science communications organization Climate Central for the next 6 years, helping other broadcast meteorologists introduce the scientific understand of climate change to their audience.

He now produces regular weather videos for Richmond and statewide and writes a national climate column twice a month.
