The Rotary Club of Richmond Packs Backpacks for Bright Beginnings
Members of The Rotary Club of Richmond recently rolled up our sleeves to help local students start the school year prepared and confident by packing backpacks for Bright Beginnings, the YMCA of Greater Richmond’s back-to-school readiness program.
For more than 30 years, the Bright Beginnings program has helped tens of thousands of children head into the classroom with the tools and encouragement they need to learn and thrive.
The Rotary Club of Richmond’s annual volunteer effort reflects Rotary’s commitment to service above self and to strengthening the community through hands-on action. By raising the resources for and packing backpacks with supplies, Rotarians helped ensure that 60 students in the greater Richmond area will start the school year with the tools for success.

The Rotary Club of Richmond Raises Funds to support Venezuela Earthquake Victims
Members of The Rotary Club of Richmond came together to raise funds to support ShelterBox'S efforts to provide assistance to the victims of last month's earthquake in Venezuela. Club members raised $10,000 for this effort thanks to a matching donation from the Foundation.
ShelterBox aims to provide emergency shelter, tools and household supplies to displaced families after disaster. Together our contributions enable families to rebuild and recover, transforming despair into hope.
ShelterBox and Rotary International are Project Partners in disaster relief. ShelterBox is a registered charity independent of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.

ANNUAL REPORT
The Rotary Club of Richmond is proud to support ReWork Richmond.
Their mission is to empower underemployed adults living in Richmond’s East End to obtain the skills and necessary support to qualify for and ultimately gain thriving, living-wage careers.
All participants are recommended by partner organizations serving individuals in the East End, or current ReWork Members.

Meals on Wheels
Grab a buddy and/or make a new friend! Meals on Wheels is in need of drivers and runners Thursday mornings. This is a two person volunteer opportunity!
Phil Freda is heading up this effort. Sign-up sheets are always available at our meetings.
Drivers and volunteers are needed for August, September, and October! Make new friends and make a difference in our neighbors' lives.

Project Warm
Did you know Project Warm is starting its 50th year of service?
Started in 1979, Project Warn volunteers have split wood at the wood lot and delivered wood to individuals who depend on wood only for their heat source.
Since 1994, Project Warm volunteers have traveled 33,000+ miles and have made deliveries to 8,000+ individuals!
All those deliveries today would fill an equivalent of 4,000+ full size pick up trucks with 2100 cords of wood, an estimated worth of $682,662 in today's market!

Ed McLaughlin, VCU Athletic Director
"Boldly Building the Future: Revenue Sharing and the New VCU Model"
Ed McLaughlin serves as the VP and Athletic Director at VCU, a position he has held since July 2012. Known as a progressive leader in modern collegiate sports, he has guided the Rams through an incredibly successful transition into the Atlantic 10 Conference while cementing VCU's status as a nationally competitive basketball-centric program.
He previously served as athletic director for Niagara University from 2006 to 2012 and as an assistant athletic director at American University and Merrimack College prior to his tenure at Niagara. The Natick, Mass native, is a 1995 graduate of Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. He earned his master’s degree in health promotion management from American in 2005. He is married to Annette, has four children: Hannah who played Division 1 soccer at Clemson, Liam, Rian, a manager on the Men's Basketball team and Dawson. He and his wife live in Richmond.
