Thank you, Joe Arduino, for 20 years of Tarrytown fun!

Did you enjoy the Easter Egg Hunt this year? What about the past twenty Easter Egg Hunts? Joe Arduino, born and raised in Tarrytown, joined the Recreation Department in April 2002 after stints in Greenburgh, White Plains and Ardsley. Thursday, April 14 was Joe's last day in Tarrytown's Recreation Office as he has retired from service. But he isn't quite giving up the microphone yet - Joe will be at this year's Duck Derby and he will stay on as a member of the Downtown Halloween Committee. Thank you, Joe, for two decades bringing the community together in joy and laughter. We wish you a wonderful retirement.

Happy Earth Month!

Thanks to all of the participants in Earth Month activities thus far, and to the TEAC volunteers working so hard to make them happen. There is more to come! This weekend you can join a clean-up at the Lakes, a Bird Watch Walk, a vine removal session at Wilson Park and a clothing swap in Patriot's Park. Congratulations to the Tarrytown Music Hall

State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins presented Tarrytown Mu­sic Hall Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor Bjorn Ols­son with a plaque designating the historic venue as one of the first in the State to be placed on the New York State His­toric Busi­ness Preser­va­tion Reg­istry, a state designation established in 2020. For those who do not know about the Music Hall's storied past and its rescue forty years ago, check out the account on the Music Hall's website.

Arbor Day

Join the Tree Commission and the Village Board for an Arbor Day Celebration at Patriots Park. Help the Village plant a new tree and learn about ways to keep our canopy healthy.

Tree Giveaway

The Tree Commission will be giving away seedlings at next Saturday's Duck Derby/Healthy Kids Day Celebration in Patriots Park on April 30th. Stop by the Tree Commission table to pick up a seedling. Choose from native deciduous and evergreen options. See you there!

Paving on Rt. 9

The NYS Department of Transportation will continue to survey, station and mobilize equipment in preparation for the milling and paving of Rt. 9. All work will be conducted at night between the hours of 9pm and 6am. The nighttime work allows the project to move more quickly which is important along this busy thoroughfare.

The project is expected to last until July.

Con Ed Update

Con Ed is continuing its gas main upgrades in the Village.

• Next week Neperan, McKeel, Dixon Legrande, Hamilton will be having pits backfilled. Basic rough road restoration may require parking disruption and possible detours. This will last through April 29.
• Monday, April 25 - no parking on Hamilton from Legrande to Neperan.
• Final paving will start May 4 or May 5 and should be completed by May 13 on the above roads.
• All paving completed by mid to end of May.
• Wilson Park Drive, second half still to be done.
• During gas main work, if you, the contractor or others are having trouble accessing your driveway or residence call the Tarrytown police desk for assistance: 631-5544

Report From Board of Trustees Meeting 4.18.22

• Following the close of the public hearing, the Board adopted a local law increasing the property tax exemptions for veterans in line with changes made at the Town and County level. For detailed information about the exemptions, you can read the local law here or learn more from the New York State Comptroller's office here.

• The Board adopted the FY2022-2023 budget. The Adopted Budget will be posted here when the document is ready.

Changes made from the Tentative Budget include the following:

o   Increased contributions to Neighborhood House and the Historic Society

o   Increased wages for part-time Library staff

o   Additional Library Fund balance transfer of $11,000 toward the increased wage costs

o   The Library total expenditure changes of $21,147, impacted Tarrytown’s tax levy by only $5,405 due to the $11,000 in additional Library Fund Balance appropriations and the cost share agreement with Sleepy Hollow.

o   Total General Fund Appropriations increased from 27,611,046 to $27,619,463.

o   Total Tax levy increased from $18,928,659 to $18,937,076.

o   New Tax Levy Percentage increase is 2.96%, which is compliant with the N

• The Board approved the continuing collaboration between the Tarrytown Police Department and the Town of Greenburgh's Drug and Alcohol Task Force. This investigative unit is made up of police personnel from multiple communities, and the Village is honored to host the Task Force in its facility.

• The Board approved the closure of Village Hall offices on Friday, May 20, to allow for dedicated focus on records retention and disposal according to New York State's Records Retention and Disposition policies. The infamous red tape of government needs to be managed before we all drown. Please excuse the inconvenience.

• Congratulations to Melissa Arango on her appointment to the Placemaking Committee. Thank you for stepping up to serve the Village.

New York State Outdoor Burn Ban

The outdoor burn ban is in effect from March 16- May 14. Open burning is prohibited in NYS, with several exceptions:

• Campfires or any other outdoor fires less than 3 feet in height and 4 feet in length, width or diameter are allowed.
• Small cooking fires are allowed.
• Ceremonial or celebratory bonfires are allowed. Disposal of flags or religious items in a small-sized fire is allowed, if it is not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
• Only charcoal or dry, clean, untreated, or unpainted wood can be burned.
• Fires cannot be left unattended and must be fully extinguished.

Open burning is the single greatest cause of wildfires in NYS. Since the spring burn ban was implemented in 2009, the number of wildfires has decreased by more than 40%. For more information on the burn ban, please visit DEC’s website.

We have launched a new tool for our MWBEs to connect and gain access to opportunities within the County. This web-based mapping application, developed by the Westchester County Department of IT GIS, provides a comprehensive view of all businesses registered with the Westchester County Minority and Women-Owned Business Program. With this mapping tool you will be able to see where all our MWBEs are located in the county and see detailed information about each business, filter by business category and see valuable infographics.
